Default BCP mask IR?

I have been on Yasmin for a month. Also I have been on Met XR. My insulin went down from 35.7 to 3.7. Do you think it was from the Met or would the Yasmin do that. If the Yasmin will bring it down then it seems like it would mask IR. What I am trying to figure out is when I get off of the Yasmin to TTC is my insulin level going to shoot back up where it will be hard to carry a pregnancy? Please any info will help

I have read conflicting things on BCPs worsening IR... Most people seem to agree it can make it worse. But HOW much worse is debatable... and taking insulin meds along with the BCP can alliviate this concern to a degree. Now recently I read a book by an endocrinologist (It's My Ovaries, Stupid! by Elizabeth Vliet) where it said the progesterone in a pill worsens IR and the estrogen improves it... so you'd think a balanced pill or a pill that is more estrogen than progestin (which Tasmin is, BTW) could improve IR... that is her claim anyway... and there are women with PCOS who find weight loss on the pill very easy but impossible while off the pill...

I would actually bet that both the Yasmin and the met are working together in your case... and hopefully this will make it easy for you to get pregnant so that when you go off it won't be too much of a concern since you will be pregnant which will put PCOS on the back burner.

Pregnancy actually is an IR state in all women which is why gestational diabetes is so common... staying on the met is speculated to reduce this risk in women with PCOS. Do you have a doctor that is OK with your staying on the met while pregnant?

Thank you ladies. That helps.

RunnerDuck-I am not sure what my doctor thinks about staying on the medicine while I am pregnant. But I think I have enough Met stored back from when I have started, stopped got a new bottle etc and refills to at least make it through the first tri unless I use them before I get pregnant. But my RE is the President of the Houston Tx Chapter of PCOS so surely he is up to date on all that and knows the risk of taking someone off during pregnancy. If he will not give them to me I will find someone who will.

I thought Yasmin was considered high in progestin strength also. I had terrible trouble with it like other high progestin pills. I'm pretty sure this is what my RE said. Just thought I'd throw that out. Maybe someone knows for sure.

HRRRMMMMMM... I don't know. If you look at http://www.wdxcyber.com/ncontr13.htm and think really hard, it does appear to be high in progestin... But then in one of the charts she says Yasmin is both higher estrogen, higher progestin AND lower estrogen, lower progestin... ummm... how can it be both?????? Maybe Yasmin is pretty BALANCED? No clue.

But I can say with some convinction that none of these charts and tips seems to amount to a hill of beans... so often things that shouldn't work seem to work well and things that should work don't...

There *are* women who lose weight on Yasmin. I know that much. Personally Yasmin mademe nuts and then I got pregnant on it... so make of that what you will. It works wonders for some and nightmares for others.
