Question BCP question

I am not TTC and I have been hearing the BCP mentioned at a few appointments. However, I've been doing some reading on the matter and it said the pill isn't a solution to PCOS. It's not a treatment at all but rather a mask for the issue.

My question is ... what should I tell my GYN if he suggests putting me on the pill. Is there a brand that works better than others? Should I just suggest going back on the Metformin to help regulate my cycle? I have an appointment on Wednesday and I'm interested to see what he's going to suggest.

I'm hoping to get some perspectives from the ladies on this board since you are all knowledgeable.

Well, I would say, never let your doctor decide something for you that you don't want. If you really would prefer Metformin over BCPs, then just share that with him and see what his opinion is. You have to be an advocate for your own health, after all. Good luck with your appointment.

I elected Yasmin over Metformin. Yasmin is a treatment method for PCOS for women who don't plan on TTC and don't mind being on birth control. I welcomed it wholehearted. See what your doc thinks would work out best for your individual concerns. I personally put my hand up at Met because I have such bad GI problems without it I think with it I would be heaving 24/7. Not worth it to me, hehe.

yasmin is supposed to be the best for pcos...in a bcp, however alot of cysters including me had a bad expirence with it. but then again some dont . so I would try yasmin first, and if you develope panic attacks please realize it could be from yasmin and stop taking it. mircette and desogen, and ortho-cyclen are among the best, if you have acne or hair loss, yasmin and mircette if you gain weight easily. also ortho is supposed to be the safest for blood clots. good luck. and it is very very helpful to be on the pill as long as you dont smoke or have a history of blood clots in your family. dont go on the patch or ring i advise risks are too high for dvts.

I had been taking Ortho Tricyclen Lo for many years and never had any problems with that, I kind of wonder why I didnt just go back to that one. I can't blame this on Yasmin, but I do notice now on this BCP I am tons more PMSish toward the end of a pill pack. I am surprised I don't sprout horns.
