Default BCP's helping? Yah right!

So, about 4 years ago when this disease really started to drive full force - my symptoms were vague; ovarian cysts, troubles with my period, and problems with my weight. Now 4 years later and my symptoms have just magnified x 10. I have been on birth control for as long as I can remember, I have tried them all. I was told before starting them that along with the obvious birth control, they were going to prevent ovarian cysts. For some reason, mine continue to grow.. they have trouble breaking off during my period. Please tell me why I am on a medication to prevent something - but I keep getting them! It's so frustrating... is it doing anything for me or just hurting me? My PCOS is so much worse on the birth control; my symptoms are horrendous. However, I am "supposedly" on them to prevent the cysts so I can't go off them. Does anyone have any insight on this? OR has anyone experienced this? it would be so greatly appreciated.. i feel like i am going crazy!!

I would go and see the doctor and voice my concerns. I too was on the BCP for around the same amount of time, and also belive it was doing more harm than good, that was quite a few years ago now though.

arrrrrgh hate BCPs they did way more harm to my body than good. I wont touch them with a barge pole. Go see what your doc says (he will prob tell you to keep on with them :roll my eyes: ) and then CHUCK THEM OUT!!

I had major side effects and also a blood clot scare, just not worth it. Pls read the book " What your doctor may not tell you about premenopause" by John R Lee, you will be very much enlightened to the dangers of BCPs.

I was on BC for PCOS for the past 8yrs. I just stopped this month. I must say that I didn't realize how much the BC was affecting my moods, weight, appetite, etc. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been feeling better and better. If it is making you feel awful, talk to your doc and get off of it.

Ok, I know the general feeling is that bcps are evil, BUT if you find a good one, it can help so much!

I feel so ill without them. I have more painful cramps, pain all the time (worse), I eat like a pig, acne gets bad, hair is dank and greasy....plus I have really annoying cycles.

I have tried natural remedies, such as homeopathy and reflexology, and would definitely recommend them. Trouble is, I tend to get into the habit of feeling worse, therefore returning to the bcp.

I am on Yasmin. In the past when I tried it, I hated it. Now it's the opposite.

I admit it can take a while to find one that is suitable, and the initial side effects can be a bit nasty, but I am quite happy and settled now.

Contraception-wise they are great, better than when I used a non-hormonal method (IUD) and had no end of pain and problems such as cramping, bleeding massive clots etc pretty much for a whole 4 months!

I know they're not for everyone, but I am incredibly thankful for them because without them, my life is hell!

On mine I have:
* lost weight
* had less headaches
* got my acne cleared up

If you are certain that they are not for you, then I definitely recommend Chinese herbal medicines and accupuncture. Also as I said before, homeopathy and reflexology.
They gave me regular cycles and helped de-stress me at least!

xx
