I know in a woman with PCOS ovulation is few and far between. But are you suppost to ovulate while on BCP's? I think I have heard with the depo shot that you dont ovulate, I just wondered if the same were true with BCP's?
Nope ... No ovulation with Birth Control Pills either. BCP function by tricking your body into believing that it has already ovulated.
If you still want to allow your body to ovulate while practicing contraception, barrier methods seem to be the best choice. Alternatively, Natural Family Planning is a great option--but it involves a lot of work.
If polycystic ovaries are lumpy because of the eggs that didn't "pop" out, does that mean you didn't ovulate? And if BCP's make you NOT ovulate, isn't that bad for PCOS? Shouldn't we WANT to get the eggs out so they don't form cysts? Please give me the sex ed. / reproductive class that I'm desperately needing!
The bc pill does not allow your body to prepare for an egg to develop. It shuts down your ovary and FSH/LH hormones and essentially rests them. With PCOS FSH/LH is out of whack and your body prepares the eggs but they never release causing the cysts to multiply. Hope that helps.

In the event the bcp's fail to trick your body into not ovulating, the bcp's make your uterine lining inhospitable. Hence even if the egg is fertilized it can't implant.
Think this way re: the eggs. The only time they get "stuck" is when they start to grow and then don't finish growing and don't complete their little trek down into the uterus. The bcp's prevent them from ever growing in the first place. Unless the "trick" doesn't work on your body, which explains why some people get preggy on bcp's who were taking them per the instructions.
