Yes, there is a serious risk associated with BCP use and smoking especially after age 35. What you have heard is true.
However, the odds that smoking itself will harm your system are greater than the odds that smoking plus BCPs will cause a cerebrovascular event, or blood clots.
And, smoking will do more harm to you than PCOS probably will. Smoking is the most potentially dangerous/lethal problem you are dealing with here. Not PCOS, not a risk of blood clots. Do your best to try to stop. Smoking can kill you in extremely ugly ways. And in the meanwhile, it can do nasty things to your looks. Good luck, I know it is a tremendously difficult challenge!
