I'm seeing a doctor for infertility and did 50 mg this past month of Clomid. I didn't ovulate and was given bcp to start my next period instead of provera or prometrium. Is anyone familiar with this? My pharmacist has been treated for the same infertility problems, and she had no clue. I asked the nurse and did not get a suitable response. I really, really did not like taking the bcp for three weeks instead of another starter.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. And should I tell the doctor "no" next time it's tried? I just felt rushed to get out of there, and they are definitely understaffed.
The best advice we can all give you is find another doctor imediately! If you're trying TTC then you need a doctor who will have patience to explain everything in detail. Plus I don't think you should be taking BCP if you're TTC!!!

DX: 1995 / Seeking treatment now! Got AF for the first time on 3/09/07!!!! Horray!
There have been many cycters here who have been given bcp's to bring on af instead of provera/prometrium. Usually when I read post like that it is to shrink any cyst that they may have. Maybe they can answer you better. Mpo is that it basically does the same thing as provera but takes longer. If your not happy with that then call the nurse back and ask her why bcp instead of provera, if they don't give you a good enough answer then tell them you would prefer progesterone. good luck.

Thanks for the opinions. I think you're dead on, Sandra, after talking to a couple of other people about it. One of my sister's friends has gone through a whole lot more than me, and the shots did not work for her with this last round, and her doctor gave her bcp, too. I'm not going to do it again and will want to know why provera is not a better option if they try it again.
I just wanted to add that my Dr actually gave me bcp for 3 months when I was doing infertility treatments, and guess what after 8 years of trying I got pregnant. I guess its was something new they were trying at the time and it worked for me.

I took the BCP for 3 months to get everything regulated and then they told me to start trying write away, after going off birth control and start the clomid with my first cycle. It worked! It was the newest thing at the time they were trying. My doc said I know it doesn't make much sense to go on birth control when your trying to have a baby, but nothing else has worked. I am so glad I gave it a shot. I of course can't be positive that was it, but I had tried injections and months of intro uterine insemination, etc. I had all but given up, we where at the point of deciding to spend the $ to do invitro or adopt. I always like to tell people about it incase it works for someone else and I hope it does!
