Default BCP's and anxiety?

Anyone experienced increased anxiety while taking BCP's?

I'm on Yasmin and I do have anxiety issues.... not sure whether it's from the bcp or just the chaos that is life, lol.... it's probably a bit of both.

I've never taken BCP but both my mother and my sister has SEVERE anxiety attacks on them-to the point of mania. My mother was told she was having an allergic reaction to them. Apparently it is a fairly common side effect that most often does not get reported.

GL to you!

That was me, too. They started off mild, and got progressively worse. When I wasn't havingn and anxiety attack, I was in a deep depression on bcp's. It was to bad it was affected my job and my homelife.

Within a week of coming off of them, it was like a fog lifted.

My identical twin who also has pcos started yaz a month ago. She's lost her mind this past week. She is going to see her gp today because her gyno is out of town and the secretary said this was not and emergency and to keep taking them (I stopped seeing him because he just doesn't seem to care a whole lot). the attacks started out small with slight heart palpitations and crying and has developed to an every day thing with nausea, diarrhea, chest pains, dizziness and hysterical crying all night. I had to get an ex to bring me some Klonopin (sp?) last night cause she was nonstop sobbing for two hours. I thought maybe it was due to her breaking up with her bf in jan. or stress at work. She says she doesn't know what it is but she feels like she's going crazy. She tried going to work this morning and broke down while talking to one of her anesthesia docs she manages. He went and got the female pharmacist and she said it's the bcp and to stop taking them.

She's got an appointment with her gp in an hour so hopefully this will get better. He's a great doctor who is a good listener and I believe should have been a therapist

I have never heard of BCP doing this. I've been on many different kinds and so has she and this has never happened.

Is it common with certain kinds of BCP or just bcp in general?

I start Yaz when my AF comes, which should be in the next week. This has really got me worried.

Yes, but I have it when I'm not on them, too. It seemed to get worse when I first started Yaz. I started back on my Lexapro the next month and it got much better again. So.....a little from column A (Yaz) and a little from column B (genetics/environment) - Chinese take-out menu.

She has had a prescription for xanax but only took them once every couple of months when work or her bf stressed her out. She said this is like going out of her mind crazy. I guess the yaz just magnifies this anxiety she already has. It's just been really scary.

I too have extremely bad anxiety. It's gotten to the point where I can pick out symptoms from any major nervous disorder - generalized anxiety, panic, OCD, agoraphobia, you name it.

I personally believe mine is genetic (as my mother used to have terrible panic attacks, to the point where she was the type of person who ended up in the hospital for observation because she thought she was having a heart attack), but I wouldn't be surprised if it's the BCPs.

I've been on them for 5 years so I really can't remember if I had this bad anxiety before (especially because I was barely even a teenager). I'm not sure I'm willing to go off them because of the birth control aspect, but I wonder if there's a better BCP I could switch to. The anxiety is positively crippling.

Navi: I also have anxiety, panic, depression, OCD, and sometimes agoraphobia. It can be crippling for me too! I thought it was my BCP (Loestrin 24 fe) so I stopped taking it and got a prescription for another. Since coming off the BCP for these past few weeks (can't start my new kind until AF comes) the depression and anxiety have lifted some, but not all the way. The new kind of BCP my doctor gave me is Lo/Ovral.

I had terrible anxiety/depression with YAZ. Every other bcp that i've tried has caused these problems too but it was the worst with yaz.

I must be weird! I've had the opposite since being off of BC. Since being off of BC I have had multiple anxiety attacks (to the point of breaking out in hives & not remembering the attacks) and depression. I wonder why I'm the opposite
