Hi everyone, I am currently taking Ortho Tri-cyclen, a decision that was based solely on the fact that it was available in a generic version, and I don't have to pay a co-pay. If I go with a namebrand formula, it's a $50 copay--per month. So it ends up being $150 every three months when I pick up a prescription, and that's steep (especially when I pay $50 per month for Ambien, and I will be starting Effexor, and I was stunned to pay a $70 copay when I picked that up yesterday).
So, does anyone take a BCP that comes in a generic version while still offering some PCOS-controlling benefits?

I'm on a generic for Ovcon 35. Well actually Ovcon turned into a chewable birth control but a generic was developed (it's not chewable...who the hell needs to chew a BCP anyway???) called Balziva. I've been on that for a looooong time.
I took Apri which is the generic version of Desogen.. I have taken both and couldn't tell any difference. While I was on it, almost ALL of my PCOS disappered.

My work trainer is on the generic for seasonelle (the one that gives you AF four times a year), but I don't know the name of it. Sprintec-28 is generic for another pill but I am not sure which one. Also check to see what's on the Walmart drug list.

I checked the Walmart list but I didn't see low dose BCP. That would really help me out if they had it. Right now I pay 31.00 a pack... I am a freelance writer and health insurance is a foreign idea to me. Any info you ladies have on this would be...GREAT!

Thanks, ladies! I'm on Tri-Sprintec now--like I said, I chose it simply because I'd been on it before I was pg, and knew that it was a $0 copay with my insurance. I'm going to look into some of the other ones, too! Thanks!
Soul, they switched me to Tri-Sprintec after I'd been taking the namebrand Ortho Tricyclen for years...I don't remember noticing a difference. I'm having a lot of migraines and breakthrough bleeding (and my skin hasn't cleared much, like they advertise) with the Tri-Sprintec right now though, so that's why I'm thinking about switching.

Anne, the reason that I have a namebrand Ambien is because I have the Ambien CR (the extended release formula), and it's not available in a generic...yet!
