Anyone tried the BCP & Met combination? Benefits? Negatives? I currently take 2000mg of Met and was thinking of going on BCPs for 6-8ish months (while my husband and I relocate and I graduate from grad. school) to see if that would clear some of the cysts off of my ovaries and regulate my period, at least.
Which pill works for you? and do you take them in combination with Met?

I have been on Yaz for a few months and while I haven't had too many problems with it, I am having horrible heartburn. I think it is a problem with my Spiro and Yaz combined.

I've been on Zovia/Demulen for almost 20 years. For about 10 years I've taken the pills on a 63 day cycle of active pills (so about 4 periods a year). I did take Metformin when TTC (did not help me ovulate, but I continued to take during IVF to prevent miscarriage and gestational diabetes). I've taken Met off and on over the years, but I don't think it does anything for me (certainly doesn't help me lose weight, but my gyn - who has PCOS herself - thinks it helps prevent more weight gain).
The pill will NOT get rid of your cysts. Those are there to stay. But it will certainly regulate you.
I am currently on Yaz and Met XR. The first med I was put on by my doc (at age 18, when I was first diagnosed) was Yasmin and before I even started Met I lost a little weight (with diet and exercise also) and I saw improvement in some symptoms. With the combination of the two I lost more weight and I now have extremely regular periods. Recently I've been slacking off on my Met and haven't lost much weight and while I am still having a period it has become lighter and almost not existent.
I'm trying to work back up to 1500 mg of Met XR and I hope that gets me back to normal.
Hope this helps!

Which BC are you on? What reasons did your doc give you for putting you on both met and bc?
Thanks for your help!

Wow, that's odd, I was on Yaz for 3 months and I had really bad heartburn and indegestion, bad enought that I switched back to Tri-Sprintec. I just started on Metformin so, hopefully they are good together...
Well ladies, wish me luck. When I went to my doc on Tuesday she gave me two months samples of YAZ to go along with my Metformin. I haven't been on BCPs since I was 19 (I'm 26 now) so we will see how this goes.

i've been taking Met. for a year and my dr. suggested that i take bcp as well. i was against it and told him i didn't want to go on the pill. my last lab work indicates that my androgen levels were off and he strongly advised that i take bcp for at least a few months to normalize my hormones. i'm starting my 3rd week of active pills (tri-sprintec) and everything seemed fine. then i got my first ever yeast infection at age 31. i was actually surprised that i hadn't gotten one sooner. i did a little research and read that sometimes, starting a bcp regimen can bring on a yeast infection. i'm guessing this is why i got one. i'm also starting to wonder if the pill is stalling my weight loss. i've gained 2-3 pounds since starting the pill despite diet and exercise. aside from these 2 minor and temporary inconveniences, i'm doing okay with the met/bcp combination. i'm actually looking forward to having better menstrual cycles. i've been off bcp for almost 5 years and i've noticed over the years how my cycles have gotten progressively worse. i'm happy to return to scant periods.
