Arrow BCPS and ttc

HI everyone i am just writing regarding taking Femon Fe and trying to get prego. MY doc told me that it a very good Bcp to be on for people with pcos. He said I am taking it to boost hormones and to get a more regular period than just taking provera. My question is has anyone ever done this? It just seems strange to take BCPs when trying to prego. PLease any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I've been told the same. BCP's regulate your period so when you come off the idea is that you are very fertile.

I'm going through the similar thing. I'm taking BCP's in part to help my pain with endometriosis (and so it does not grow) and I'll go off them here in a few months and then start TTC again. My dr. said she's had luck w/ this before and has seen patients get pregnant w/in 1-4 mos of coming off of BCP (I guess compared to just starting not on...)

It does seem backwards to me, but I was having 0 luck before, so I was prepared to try!

I was on BCP, went off to TTC on my own. I developed a 37 MM cyst on my left ovary, so now I am back on to try to shrink it. I think I may need to go back on Metformin. It's been years. I'm meeting with the RE on 9/2.

Ya I'm worried...whenever I go off I develop cysts too. Last time I developed a cyst on each ovary and I was only off of BCP for 10 days! I'm worried about TTC b/c I can't seem to go more than 2-3 months before the pain becomes unbearable and have to go back on.

Sigh.

Good luck to both of you

Oliva:

Are you on Metformin? I am wondering if it will reduce the chances of developing a cyst when you go off the pill.

I eat so healthy, and I thought that I would be ok. I did start eating some fruit, because it's so delish this time of year, and I wonder if that is why I got the cyst, because it may have been affected by my IR. I also wonder if it's because I was eating flax oil. I cut the flax out. I eat no soy. Damn ovies.

Thanks for the Met suggestion. I will have to talk to my dr. I suspect the reason I go back & forth is that I cannot stand the pain from the endo off of birth control. I'm hoping I can take more than 4 months off of bcp this time around. I guess we'll see.

I'm really careful about diet too. I've cut back a lot on fruit (it used to be what I ate constantly) and I've replaced it with more veggies. I'm now obsessed with veggies! Which is great

What are your diet secrets?

I'm going more organic where I think it matters - veggies, meat, etc to try to help w/ the endo.

Just feels like a constant battle some days!

I was on Yaz for three months in 2006. I came off it in December, af showed up and two weeks later I conceived my daughter. After she was born I had a shot to prevent pregnancy for three months. That wore off in December and in March I conceived again.

I was also on Met because I have type 2 diabetes. When I went on Yaz my dosage was increased from 1500mgs/day to 2000mgs/day.

I,too, thought it was strange to go on the pill when I was trying to get pregnant but it did work for me. I hope it works for you.

I'm glad to see other RE's are recommending the same route of meds. I about fell out of my chair when my RE suggested I start bcp's for 2 month's. I looked at the man like he had 3 heads he laughed and said that it helps many women regulate their hormones. In my case its to help bring my testerone level to normal...I'm crossing my fingers b/c I'm on my 2nd month and should get new bw done in a bout 2 weeks to see what my hormones look like. If they are normal I'll get to start clomid.. yippe!!!

Olivia--diet secrets? hm. I'm trying to go more organic also. It's hard, because I like to shop at Costco, and they don't have many organic choices.

Now for breakfast and usually lunch I make a protein shake. It's ice, unsweetened almond milk, 1 T unsweeted cocoa powder and 2 scoops of Any Whey tasteless protein.

Otherwise my meal is really just protein and veggies. It's a boring life.

Next year I am going to join a farm co-op, and get all organic foods.

I've also been told the same. Since January, I knew we would want to TTC this August. I went off the nuvaring in early August, but no evidence of O and no AF either.

I'm wondering if this will work or not, but my RE also said to try it for 2 months, and if I dont get AF or preg, then I will go on Clomid. So far, it looks like Oct 10 is when I go on Clomid, but here's hoping!
