Question the bearded lady

HI Ladies-

I just stumbled onto this site and am so excited to have found you all!

I am a 28 year old Texan who was diagnosed 7 years ago. I take the pill and tried glucophage (although I could not tolerate it) to help with the PCOS.

I recently had a consult with my dermatologist about laser hair removal and was told I am a great candidate (I am really fair with dark, course hair). The problem is he quoted a price of $650 per session with me needing about 3-4 sessions.

Does this seem high?? I have called 2 other doctors in the area and both are similar in cost =-(
My insurance will not pay for the procedures even though I am depressed because of the hair and go to therapy, have acne/ingrowns I am being treated for, etc.

Does anyone know of other places to try in the East Central area of Texas? I could even travel to Houston if I needed to.

Thanks so much in advance!!

Welcome to the board! It is indeed a Godsend!

I jsut had a laser consultation this morning. For my sideburns and chin is will be about $150/session and for my belly $100/session. She said 4-6 sessions for the face and 4-5 for the belly.

Those prices are in Canadian dollars, so the price would be 25% less in US$. I don't think it could be that much more expensive in the states. What exactly are you having done?

$650 per SESSION?? Wow, that's alot. My derm quoted me $235/session and it's a 25min session and they'll do everything they can in that amount of time. hell if they could do your whole body in that time they'll do it.

I'm checking around and I think someone said they were quoted $135/session...

I'd check around if I were you.

Also, you should check EVERY endocrinologist and OB/gyn on your plan to see if they do laser removal treatments in their office. If so, then go see them and have them bill it under PCOS. One of the girls here is having her treatments covered by her insurance.

I'm currently doing the same thing myself. I have found 1 that has a laser in their office but want to make sure there's more than one in case I don't like her.
