It varies from state to state, sometimes county to county but I know that you have a few home visitis, income requirements, look at your taxes and debt (some do that and some don't), a mental health check (like I said, it varies), child care classes and foster care training, to name a few. It is not as daunting as it sounds. They will help you out; you need to contact your local Child Protection office or child welfare. You may be able to Google 'foster care in Louisiana' and find the requirements on line and who to talk to. Good luck!

We have the application packet for our county/state laying on our dresser. This is for Ohio and what I remember from memory. First the application rather short basic things including a release for a background check and a list of 4 references. There are 11-3 hr classes required. Our's are on 6 Saturdays. Doctor's form, fingerprinting, fire inspection, home study meetings are all listed in the packet. Our state licenses for foster care/adoption at the same time so some of these might technically be only required for adoption. The classes start Aug 12 for our county so we need to get going on the application. I just called the county office and talked with the person who handled foster parent applications. According to that person I talked to all this must be done with 180 days or we need to start over. From what I've read on the web/from others this seems like a new rule or something for our county.
