Husband (37)
Son (2 1/2 year)
Well, it's not a typical adoption story. My now husband used to date a woman and she got pregnant. Well, to make a long story short, she was 3mos pg and went to Alabama (where she's from) and my husband never heard from her again. She said it wasn't his, etc....so, the state calls him and says that the baby is in foster care, the dad on the birth-certificate isn't the biological father, and can my husband take the test? Well, he said yes of course. Over the past year we've tried to contact her but no luck.
Anyways, it came back that he was the dad, we found out the mother is addicted to Meth again (she's already lost 2 kids due to this) and that if we want her, the lil one can live with us. They are granting my husband Permanent Placement and Sole Custody which works for me. Eventually we're going to petition for the mother's rights to be terminated and for me to legally adopt her. But, until then i'll be her legal guardian which is fine with me!
Needless to say, after wanting a baby for soooo long it's finally going to happen. The funny part is that the day we were going to pursue adoption is the day the call about all this came. Can we say life works in mysterious ways? I remember when I first started datiing my husband and how when I heard about this possibility, I was devistated. It had me so upset I ended up in the hospital. Now it seems as if this "mistake" as I once called it is really my "blessing" that i've been wanting, crying about everyday.
Sorry so long ladies, i'm just a tad emotional right now. Thank you all sooo much for you congrats! I would love to hear your stories if you all wouldn't mind....
Not typical but a miracle all the same. Congrats again!! We don't have a story, we are former foster parents, moved out of that area. We plan to foster again when DH has permanent orders. We have also planned to adopt since before we had our own but we will see how that works out in the future now that we have a full house (and even more full once we foster again!)

Congratulations!! Sounds like a perfect match for your family!
We have 1 daughter by birth and in 2004 we adopted Emily from China, and in 2006 Katie came home from China too. Both of our younger girls were about 11 months at adoption.
Children are such blessings and I'm happy for you that you are soon a Mommy too!
Congrats again

We have one birth daughter, conceived after 3 years of trying. We just adopted a 5 year old little boy that we found out about through a friend. Miracles happen!

Baby boy on the way!!!!!!! Due 3/10/2010 I couldn't feel more blessed.
Sounds like it turned out perfect! We have a daughter adopted from China. She was about 11 months old when we met her. We've been home for 5 months. We're either going to TTC again (terrifying to think about) or adopt from somewhere (not China b/c of many reasons). We don't ever want Aimee to feel like we adopted her b/c we couldn't have bio children @ the time as she's our own child.
