I didn't introduce myself - I just jumped right in! Must I say this board is the busiest board I have ever posted to!
I haven't been diagnosed with PCOS but I'm sure I have it. Not as bad as some of you. I have had irregular periods since I started at age 10. My periods would be from 28 - 54 days or more sometimes. I usually go 3 days kind of heavy then it trails off the next 2 - 3 days. I have some facial hair but not too much. I am insulin resistance and have starting the balding in the front just the last couple years. I am also very tired all the time. I could sleep 10 hours and still take a nap in the afternoon.
My DH had a vasectomy during his first marriage so after we got married in 1996 he had that reversed. It didn't take. We went through 1 1/2 years of infertility. They went in and did a sperm aspiration to get the little guys for me. I had shots, shots and more shots. I had 3 IVF's and 1 insemination. The insemination took and we have a 4-year old in 2001 so really have been ttc for over 4 years before I got pg.
I am currently on zocor for high cholesterol which I have gotten down to 158 at my last check and avandia for the insulin resistance. I have been on avandia for over a year now and haven't had really any weight loss. Should I be losing? I read on here about one lady that is losing really well with glucophage. Maybe I should be on it?
What do I have to do to get tested for PCOS?
Thanks for listening and if I can help I sure will.
This board is full of great info & positive, supportive cysters. You did what I did...just jump in & start posting. You'll find your way around to the specific boards you need and you'll probably find a home in at least one of them, probably more!
Welcome to SC! I'm no doc, but isn't Zocor possibly harmful to the liver, so your doc may not want to put you on Met. (which is a med where your liver has to be checked also). I'm on Met and it hasn't harmed my liver at all I'm sure, but my doc does regular tests to make sure. I've dropped seven pounds and am hoping to never get diabetes. I have Insulin Resistance.
I get bloodwork every 3 months right now and they have been okay with my liver... thank Goodness.
I have a brother who found out when he was 40 that he has inherited my Dad's heart problems. My Dad died when he was 45 - had diabetis and bad heart. My brother had 3 blockages that they worked on. One was 99% blocked and two they put stents in. It was very scary when the doctor said he had a heart of a 90-year old man.
Right after I had my son I thought it was time to start taking care of my health... not only my diet but to check cholesterol levels, etc.
