Behcet's Disease Behcet's Disease is an auto-immune disorder that causes the immune system to over-react to infections and attack your body's cells. The symptoms are early-onset rheumatoid arthritis, fatigue, lesions on the body and specifically bad ulcers in the mouth/genital areas. (TMI, sorry.)
I was diagnosed with this the same year I was diagnosed with PCOS, when I was 16. Both were diagnosed by an OB/GYN, but I went on to see a rheumatlogist who specialized in Behcet's.
My symptoms were almost debilitating for the first three years. I would have ulcers so bad I couldn't eat/go to the bathroom, and the arthritis would get so bad in my knees that I could barely walk. Then when I was about 20 my symptoms started to disappear. Aside from general fatigue that could also be PCOS related, and mild arthritis in my knees and hips, mostly when the weather changes, I've been symptom-free for almost 3 years. Now my symptoms seem to be coming back slowly. I think I've noticed a pattern between this and my periods. For the 2 1/2 years that I had no AF, my symptoms went away. Then, this year since I've started again, they're coming back...
There is a Behcet's disease support site but not a lot of activity there. I don't think this is related to PCOS because males get this too, but I was just wondering if anyone had these kinds of symptoms or knew someone who did with PCOS... |
