Ok I'm a big girl, I'm going for my antanomy scan in 15 days. Just wanting to know from other fluffy cysters, was the picture quality good, or was it not so clear b/c of going thru layers of fat? I know it may sound like a silly question but I'm really wondering...?

I have had 3 anatomy scans. One at 20 weeks, one at 23 weeks and one at 27 weeks 1 day. The quality was actually pretty good. But, they had trouble seeing his heart. However, the one I had last week wasn't nearly as clear as the previous ones. The tech did say that my weight could have played a role or just that my skin transmits waves poorly. In any case, eventually they saw what they needed to see. I'll have to go back again at 30 weeks.

Mine was last Wednesday and it was just fine. In fact all three ultrasounds I've had have been abdominal and all three have resulted in great pictures.

The anatomy scan went great!! I had a full bladder so the tech said that helps cause it pushed everything up but she had no problem finding the heartbearts, saw everything they needed too... I've had scans since then with an empty bladder and it was just the same as the other ones...
I think you should be fine

I'm pretty big too (5'9 or 5'10 depending on the day, ha ha) and weighed 205 at my anatomy scan. Mine seemed just a hair fuzzy compared to some I've seen here and on other websites, but it also seemed comparable to many of them so it was probably their equipment more than anything!
Mostly I wanted to tell you that I was SUPER sore the next day, not dying of pain or anything but I was sure surprised by it. Between my extra weight and the baby being really rally low she had to dig deep to see what she needed to see. I ended up taking a Tylenol the next day and I think it lasted 2 or 3 days? Just wanted to warn you! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I am a very very very big girl and they have never had any problems doing mine. I didn't even have to have a vaginal ultrasound at 7 weeks when I had my very first ultrasound.
I have also never had an ultrasound done that made me "sore" for more then a couple of minutes. The only ones that have had this happen are the ones the perinatologist does when he is trying to get a good look at every little thing.

Thanks girls for the replies! I guess I worry about weird things sometimes. But I feel slightly disappointed that I don't look pregnant yet, and I don't want to be embarrassed in front of dh b/c my fat is hindering a great u/s... I know I'm just thinking too much into it. But hey we have to have something to worry about don't we? lol

I had mine last week and saw her just fine, but like the other ladies said they had to dig in really hard I was sore for like a hr afterward and while she was doing it. Also i had the same problem as one of the ladies above where they couldn't get good pics of her heart, the lady didn't say it was because of my fat though, she said it was the way our girl was laying that day, lol but probably was the big ol belly, she even had me turn on my sides to try to get it but wasnt working. And trust me it is amazing how you are out there for your husband to see, with your belly on display, Ive learned to get over my embarrassment easily, just going to get worse and hes going to see me in even worse conditions, ex) giving birth, lol

Soreness can happen to anyone. I'm not particularly big (only 169lbs at 32 weeks pregnant) and I was sore after my anatomy scan. The u/s tech had to push a little more aggressively to see what she needed to -- for clarity only. I don't have much of a layer of fat on my abdomen, either so it's all relative. Depends on the baby's position, etc.
FWIW I was much bigger with a much bigger layer of fat last pregnancy and wasn't sore at all ...

Don't worry, I was around 287lbs at 5'9 when I had all of my scans, and they were of great quality. I even had a 4D ultrasound done around the 33rd week, and it was beautiful! I'm sure you'll be fine :0)

I am a fluffy girl and most of my u/s were good...although a few of them, the tech really pushed and dug that wand in and it hurt, I felt very bruised....

I am so glad you asked this question as I have the same fear. I am around 300 and just got my first BFP and now am scared to death. I am so hopeful by all the posts that I will be able to have a "normal" u/s. It is so great to have these boards where others are in my same situation!
