Points: 351.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 351.00 | Benign Ovarian Tumors/Premature Menopause Hey Ya'll,
This is my first post on this board. It looks like a really great board..very informative! Anyway, I was diagnosed with PCOS and insulin resistance when I was 12 or 13. I have since become diabetic. I recently was told that I might be going through premature menopause and ovarian falure. I am only 25 years old. I am suppose to take the FSH test next Tuesday to determine how bad it is. Has anyone here been diagnosed with premature menopause?
Also, about two weeks ago I started having horrible ovarian pain. I thought it was just another cyst that got too big. The pain got so bad that I went to the ER. They couldn't find any blood flow to my left ovary when they did an ultra sound at the ER. The next day my gyno called me and told me to come right in because I might have to have emergency surgery. (she got the results back from the ER) So, I go in for another ultra sound. They did find blood flow on my left ovary this time..but when they looked at my right ovary, there were tumors everywhere! No wonder my tummy has gotten so big. I look like I am pregnant and I am not! I thought I was just gaining weight even though I haven't been able to eat much. Anyway, they didn't have to do emergency surgery..but they did give me some pain meds and put me on bed rest until I get my next period ( I am on Yasmin and I should start any day now) so they can do another ultra sound. They scheduled it for the 29th. I don't know if I can wait that long..this pain is horrible! It is also making my back hurt like crazy..very hard to walk or do anything. My gyno said that my ovaries are twisting back and forth. That and the tumors are causing the terrible pain.
Has anyone here had ovarian tumors? They are benign thank God..but they are so painful. Mine are the size of baseballs. I will probably have to lose my right ovary...and maybe my left too. Has anyone been through this before? I wonder why they are calling these tumors and not cysts. Any advice at all is greatly appriciated! I am sure I will be posting a lot more since I am on bed rest. Ahhh good times! LOL
Thanks to anyone who read this far! I hope to get to know ya'll soon!
Love,
Jessica |

Wow, I'm sorry you're going through all of this I can tell you that, medically speaking, usually when they use the term "cyst" it means a sac filled with a fluid or semi-solid substance. A "tumor" is usually basically solid tissue. The two usually appear very differently when viewed by ultrasound; a cyst looking more like a balloon and a tumor looking like a solid mass, but on the very, very rare occasion they are wrong (this happened to an aunt of mine). Just thank goodness it's benign!
A friend's mother did have a tumor the size of a grapefruit removed, along with that ovary, when the doctor was just expecting a common cyst. She's just fine now and the operation was a simple one for her. It was amazing to see how much smaller her tummy instantly became!
I wish you luck with your surgery I hope someone who has had more experience with this comes along to help you, but I thought I'd tell you what I know.
Dana

My Mood: Points: 2,070.34 Bank: 156,925.16 Total Points: 158,995.50 | Welcome Jessica, I had surgery in 2004 for the removal of a tumor the size of a grape fruit and when the doctor went in she found that it was wrapped partially around my ovary so she removed have of the ovary. It was very painful. I couldnt get a period for the longest until my doc put me on metformin and that's when it started to flow. My AF comes more frequently but there are times it doesn't so my gyn prescribed yasmin so we will see how it goes. I haven't heard anything about premenopausal and Im praying that's not the case. It must be a horrible thing to have to experience at such an early age. I would be devasted because all my life I've dreamed of having children. It's one thing to have to live with PCOS and IR but it's another to have to go through pre-menapause. You are in my thoughts and prayers, (((((((((((Jessica)))))))))))))))).

Points: 351.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 351.00 | Thanks everyone for the replies. I don't think I can wait til the 29th for the next ultra sound. This pain is so bad. I have to go in Tuesday to get a FSH test done, so I will try to talk to them then. I hate this waiting, but I guess there isn't much they can do. Hopefully I will get my AF in the next day or so, and my gyno thinks that maybe the pain will subside some. I hope so!
I hope maybe someone can tell me more about premature menopause. I really hope I don't have that. I want to ttc in the near future..and if I am going through menopause I can forget even trying.
Thanks gals!
Jessica
