Post Best Bcps?

My doctor prescribed me Avaine and it isnt really working for me so april 15th i am going to my endo. to get prescribed different Bcp. I was wondering what's the best BCP for all of you and what seems to help better with the whole excess hair and getting rid of the cysts, and stuff like that? I am pretty new at this so dont really know alot about PCOS right now, thanks

Ok, so you need an anti-andorgenic pill that will shrink and get rid of the cysts, plus keep other PCOS symptoms such as acne under control.

The bcps normally used for this are (in order of androgenicity, lowest first):
Diane 35
Yasmin
Yaz
Desogen
Mircette
Ortho-Cyclen

For me, Desogen got rid of the cysts and was good but I had more acne and mood swings. Yasmin (my current pill) seems to be great, no cysts, definitely reduced PCOS symptoms, very short and less painful periods.

Diane/Dianette did help with my cysts but the other side effects I couldn't tolerate!

I haven't had any breakthrough bleeding on Yasmin as the progestogen is very strong and is the only one that is NOT derived from Levenorgestrel - the most androgenic (bad for PCOS) progestogen available. Therefore it should in theory be far better for PCOS peeps!

Aviane probably isn't helping as it uses levenorgestrel, so probably won't do much if anyhting for cysts or excess hair problems, in fact it could make these things worse.

xx

This is the first time I've ever been on BCP's, ever in my life. I don't really care much for taking thing that alter my body's chemistry and make-up, but I'm actually just trying to regulate my periods so that we can hopefully have our first baby...

Anyway, Yaz is what I'm on...the only thing I've ever used so I can't compare them, but I have to say, it's been great. I was a bit skeptical when I first started it since I was online reading blogs strictly related to Yaz where users were complaining of all sorts of issues with it. I was scared to death, but was willing to try. So far it's been great! I've had no side effects at all and my acne has definitely cleared up quite a bit (I've used every acne product on the market w/ no success) and I have less facial hair. My breasts are also noticibly bigger (which I can't complain about being only a 34B to start with) So it's been good for me. This is the end of my first month, then I'm going to do one more month of Yaz then TTC, so we'll see. I'm just scared now that once I stop all the acne and hair will come back...
