I'm really not happy with my birth control and I know it's something that I need to help manage some of my PCOS symptoms. I take Ocella (generic for Yasmin) now. Has anyone tried anything else that may be better (especially for weight gain... I don't need anymore of that) I go back to the doc in a couple of weeks.
Thanks!
Wish me luck, having to go up on metformin again, insulin isnt moving any further down on my current dose

I am pretty much in the same boat. I have been taking Yaz for the last 3 or 4 years. I lost my insurance because I got married, so I have to switch to a less expensive BC. I have tried Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and I hated it. I had really bad migraines and super painful periods with it. I have also tried Desogen and I didn't like it either. I called my gyno and he suggested Ortho Cyclen.....so I will let you know how that goes.
Good luck!

Are you finding that the Yaz is making it difficult for you to lose weight? I stopped taking the Yaz for a couple of days and lost 5 lbs, then went back on Yaz and gained the 5 lbs back. Do not know if it is the Yaz or something else. Thinking about going off the Yaz if I will lose weight not on it.
I have read that Yaz and Yasmin are best for PCOS. Actually these 2 pills are also supposed to help the most with the few pounds a lot of women gain on the pill (due to water retention). Yaz and Yasmin have a mild diuretic in the pill to try and help with the water retention side effect.
I tried Ortho try-cyclen before Yasmin and it was just not a good mix with my body, but it may be worth a shot.
This article says that the pill can cause increased insulin resistance. Is this true? Will I lose weight if I go off the pill??? Lost weight when I went off the pill for a few days and gained it back when i went back on. Has this happend to anyone else? Help! Should I go off the pill?

There have been reports through the years, especially with the older, higher dose pills, of adverse effects on insulin resistance. Even recent studies seem to indicate that current pills can raise insulin levels. Insulin resistance is a condition in which insulin levels rise in response to carbohydrates and drive all energy into the fat cells and essentially prevent weight loss even with dieting.
Not all women are susceptible to insulin resistance and thus not all women gain weight using oral contraceptives. Those that have a tendency to abnormal glucose metabolism, however may be the ones who gain weight. If a woman gains weight upon starting oral contraceptives and there are not other explanations, she should be checked out for possible insulin resistance.
