Default best method to get rid of excess hair--lose weight or laser?

ok this is a wierd question but what is the best method to get rid of excess hair-- lose weight or laser? I wanted to go the safe route and lose weight but a friend told me I'm better off getting laser first because the hair is dark and coarse and laser will remove it then after that I should attempt losing weight because it will help balance my hormones which will prevent the treated hair from growing back (making the laser much more successful-since they cannot guarantee it permanent removal when someone has a hormonal imbalance). This person said if I lose the weight first then the hair might not necessarily be curbed, it might just get finer and lighter thereby making the laser ineffective as it can only respond to dark/coarse hair. Basically her point of view was that I should do laser first, then lose weight instead of attempting the weight loss first because she says I might just be stuck with fine blonde hairs that won't respond to laser if I just lose weight first. What do you think?

Thanks

I hate to be negative, but I once lost 70 pounds, and it did nothing to diminish my facial/body hair. Once that hair folicle is formed, you will always have hair there. Laser hair works wonders, try it you will love it!

I have lost 47 pounds in the last 7.5 months and it has done nothing for the hair and my GP is opening a dermatology clinic and said he will give me a discount on the laser so I am going to go for it! I think you should do the laser and the weight loss at the same time- no need to do one or the other and weight loss can only be beneficial in all aspects of your life anyway .

I have to agree... losing the weight won't help the excess hair. I was told that once the hair is there it will not "just go away". I had laser and it worked wonders. There were a few "stubborn" hairs that remain but I just pluck them and forget about it. Weight loss will help in other areas but unfortunately not when it comes to excess hair. Go have a consulataion and hear what a doctor has to say.
