Default Best treatment for PCOS

Hi, I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and I was just wondering what the best treatment plan would be. My doctor has suggested three medications to me and a family friend that also has PCOS suggested one to me. My doctor has suggested YAZ, Spironolactone, and Metformin. My friend suggested a birth control with low estrogen. I really want to take a medicine that will help balance my hormones and help me lose the weight and control the acne. Any insight on this will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Well, if you search around here, you will see a ton of different treatments. Some will say yes to meds, some will say no. I don't think there is just ONE best treatment plan that fits everyone. It's really how YOU want to deal with it.

Good luck!

As for the meds side of thing it is really what is best for you. But as others will say the best way to treat pcos is with diet and exercise!

I'm taking Metformin, however I am considering going the all natural route. I think an all natural approach is best!

I think that also varies depending upon your symptoms as well. But the course that your doc recommended is very common.

It all depends on what works best for your body.

But in my case METFORMIN did for me, it helped me maintain my weight and help lose a little, if im not on met then my weight goes up dramatically.
And it helps with my symptoms, and also made me ovulate and have my son, this was a miracle for me, since being off it i have gained alot of weight, and im actually going in 10mins to the docs to get back on it.
(been off met since i fell pregnant with my son)

So i suppose its trial and error, but bcp is good also as it levels out your hormones, i recommend dianette, thats what i was on, its meant to be the best for pcos sufferers.

In my opinion, the best first line treatment for PCOS is proper diet (for many this means low carb) and exercise (both cardio and weight training).

I think meds can definitely be beneficial, but lifestyle changes are key.

I was normal wieght when diagnosed so the doctors put me on birth control and that was all. For me, that was not good, although I know other people have success. While it did give the illusion of regulating my cycle, I also gained 25 pounds! So I went from being average weight to being overweight in 2 months. I cam off of birth control 2 months ago and I have so far lost 15 pounds and my BMI is bak to normal. I wish I had known about met because I wonder if that would have helped, unfortunately the only way to see what works for your is trial and error. Good luck!

Only you can research and decide for you. To me Metformin is a natural route, cause I got my cycles back without taking hormones.
