Please help, I'm very nervous!!! This is my first BFP, and I'm feeling great, but I just need some reassurance about the hCG numbers!
My first beta on 10/11/09, at 12DPO, was 12. Then my second beta on 10/13/09, at 14DPO, was 37.
The nurse was cruel and said to only be "cautiously optimistic" because the numbers are so low. All I've ever heard and read is that it doesn't matter what the numbers are, only that they double, which mine did...
Should I be worried? Please be honest!!!

Congrats on your BFP!!! Yeah, there's no reason to think anything bad right now--no bleeding/cramping going on right? So, you're pregnant and your numbers are going up as they should---may as well celebrate! Did they check your P4 and/or put you on supplements? (some REs will do supps regardless of what the p4 actually is. My p4 was ridiculous, but I was still on supps until 8wks.) As long as that number is good and holding steady, nothing to do but wait for the first u/s.

Honestly, i would tell her to shut her damn mouth. No where in her job description is be blazey about this. It's a serious thing in a womans eyes who has been ttc for a very long time and finally getting a bfp.
11dpo - 16!
13dpo - 50
17 dpo - 400
Doesn't matter how low the number is the begin with AS LONG AS IT DOUBLES! My RE said it must have just implanted for it to have been that low and was excited from the begining. Ugh, I hate health care professionals that say things like that.
Only thing, have you had a p4 done? If not get one. If you have and your numbers are like 25 and below ask for progesterone supplements til 11 weeks.

ours were 7.35 on 12dpo and 30 on 14dpo with our 6mo. old daughter. You had a really nice doubling time. Some people have lower hcg... we had low numbers with our first DD too... it truly is only the doubling time that matters. When is your next beta?

Oh wow, thank you so much, ladies!!! What a relief!!!
I didn't get a P4... My doctor just went to a big symposium about miscarriages and it's been determined that progesterone has nothing to do with miscarriages... I dunno...
I'll be calling this afternoon to see if the fertility doctor I was seeing wants me to come in for a follow up. My other doctor was going to leave it until next Tuesday though... I hope the fertility one will want to see me sooner...
Neither of them do deliveries/pre-natal care. So I have to find someone else anyhow.

I'd find someone else by the sounds of it. If the Dr's don't give a hoot when you're concerned then they shouldn't be practicing medicine. It's all about taking care of the patient and making them comfortable. Sometimes these dr's make me so mad!

It does seem a little low but if it's doubling that is a good sign. My beta was something like 65 at 11dpo.

With my second daughter my beta was only 12 and then the doubling time was 3.5 days.. which isn't good either.. she is sitting beside me at 22 months old now!

I talked with the nurse again and she said the doctor isn't worried at all, but she'll get my blood drawn again next Tuesday to make sure. Relief!

My numbers started low too. My first beta was only 33 and that was like 14dpo (around there). I went back a couple days later and it more than doubled. Don't worry!
