What probably happened was the baby stopped growing several weeks before. With a m/c, betas can be slow to rise or rise and then start dropping. I had a m/c at 11 weeks last year. I didn't have my betas tracked after my BFP, (we saw a strong heartbeat at 7 weeks so we thought all was ok), but when I had light bleeding/cramping at 10w5d I went to the hospital. The did a u/s and it showed the baby was only measuring 8w1d. The ran my HCG that day and it was 5500, the following day they ran it and it was 5000. The next day I miscarried. They tracked my HCG after my m/c until it reached zero, which was about 3 weeks after my m/c.
