I was diagnosed with bipolar II not too long ago, and my psychiatric NP put me on Zyprexa to help with my hypomanic episodes. Either I wasn't paying attention or she failed to mention that it can cause rapid weight gain. In about 2 months, I gained 20 pounds! It wasn't until another counselor mentioned the risk of weight gain with Zyprexa that I realized what was going on. They took me off of it immediately, and some of the weight came off pretty quickly, but I'm still fighting some of it off. So just be aware that when they say weight gain is a side effect, they really mean it!!!

Yeah, there was a big deal about how it gave people diabetes and some people even died. I wasn't aware that they still prescribed it, to be honest - I thought it had been pulled off the market. There was a huge class-action lawsuit.

Wow, where was I when this was going on? If only I knew then what I know now...
