Just when I think this unwanted hair thing can't get worse, it does! I have had trouble with hair on my chin, neck, and abdomen ever since I was in high school. Now I'm in my early 30's and have been off the pill for nearly three years. Ever since then, not only has the hair I already had gotten worse (thicker, faster regrowth, you name it), but it has also become a problem in other areas. I have issues on my feet, even my toes, also some on my breasts and even the occasional 2 or 3 on my chest and sternum. Pretty much any place a man has hair that a woman shouldn't, I've got it to some degree. Except the back. God, PLEASE spare me that one! At least I can access all the other areas. Also, even my arm hair has gotten thicker.
Is this just me? I've recently been told that I'm hyperandrogenemic - high androgen levels mainly from the adrenal glands. Perhaps that's more closely related to all this hair than PCOS. As we speak my RE is actually working on genetic testing to find the cause. From all my research I presume she's testing for LOCAH. And by the way, no one in my family has dealt with any of this. Help!

1. You're at an age where estrogen levels would be decreasing anyway and your hormone balance shifting in favor of testosterone, leading to increased male-type hair growth.
2. The fact that you've come off the pill will have reduced your estrogen levels and whatever natural estrogen production you have may not have resumed even to the level at which it was prior to going on the pill.

Many women, given the right hormonal conditions, can grow hair in all the areas that men can.

CAH can result in considerable masculinization, but LOCAH is unlikely to have such extensive effects.

Have you tried shaving your chin? It takes only a few seconds in the morning with a men's-type electric razor. I've full male-type beard growth but shaving still takes me less time than brushing my teeth in the morning.
No, I havnt tried shaving. I usually just pluck them all out, or I have a little hair trimmer I use.

I can completely relate. I not only have hair toes I have hair on my feet...a patch right at the top where men have it. I wax it and have had great results from that.
You asked for someone to please spare you the back....well lets hope it works out for you because, let me tell you, it is horrible. In the last two years the back has started for me as well. I have two patches on my shoulder blades and then just random ones turning up other places all ove rmy back. I can't reach them so have asked my mom to wax for me but now I currently live abroad and am too embarassed to ask anyone to remove the hair for me.
We makes jokes about it all but it really does affect my life. I have a new partner that I love very much and I want to be able to be with him to the fullest sexually but it is hard when I am self concisious about stupid body hair. I just want to feel feminine and not like a man!
We know how we feel like that at some point. But remember that sometimes our SOs actually like the fact that we're different from other girls. I know my DH loves to nuzzle my chin when it's bristly in the morning -- he's not nearly so interested in nuzzling it when it's smooth. For him the male-type hair growth is not a turn-off. The way I've eventually come to look at it is -- if he enjoys it, then there's not too much point in me getting upset over it.
