Default BFP and met

Just found out I'm pregnant today! Calling the dr tomorrow for 1st appt... Thought it would NEVER happen! I am noticing a lot of you are on Metformin during pregnancy because it helps reduce the risk of miscarrying. I was on it for about two days and quite because my PCOS really isn't that bad (not overweight, no elvated male hormones, not insulin resistant, just irregular periods and an ultrasound showing the actual cysts). I'm wondering why my dr prescribed it in the first place (it's supposed to lower insulin and if I'm not resistant could it really help me?) but I'm also wondering if maybe I should start taking it again now as a safety precaution. I went from being super excited to just expecting the worst! Thank you guys!!

Well it seems that doctors have different opinions on met during pregnancy! I'm 11 weeks pregnant with twins and my OB had me gradually lower my dose over 1 week then quit it.She said that it can cause problems in pregnancy.I would discuss it with your doctor!

Congrats on your BFP!

Congrats on your bfp hope you have a happy and healthy 9 months. My doctor told me to get off met as soon as he found out i was pregnant. So yeah all doctors do have different opinions.

While I am still on met, I will say that starting it now is probably not going to be helpful, as met can take 3-6 months to get into your system good.

If you weren't on met before I haven't seen a dr yet (on here or in my reading's), that will start you on met AFTER a bfp.

Odds are if you didn't need it before, you'll be fine now without it!

The biggest reason I am still on it is to help ward of gestational diabetes because I have very high risk factors for it!

Since you only took it for 2 days, your doctor will probably tell you to stop taking it. My doctor's rule is that if you conceived on it, stay on it.

I'm 22 weeks along and I'm still on Met. My doctor sees no problem with me staying on it the whole pregnancy, especially since I am GD.

My endocrinologist told me to stop the met as soon as i was pregnant, but my cousins(who also has pcos) doc said she should continue...second opinion maybe? Congrats, and don't worry, I hope you have a happy and stress-free pregnancy.
