Default Bi-Polar Meds and PCOS

I recently learned (I think from WebMD.com) that there have been studies linking the use of mood stabilizers to PCOS. I also discovered that most anti-psychotics (including the two I have been prescribed in the past), increase blood sugar levels.

Just something to think about...

That is very interesting to know especially as a PCOS person and a Type 2 Diabetic.

I am not on a mood stabiliser at the moment, having wanted to try just an AD and my own will power to try and control things – but it’s become apparent over the past couple of months that isn’t working.

I was just taking Celexa at 40mg which did use to control the depression but didn’t send me manic but have just tapered off that and switch to Mirtazapine 15mg (Remeron) last Friday and already only 5 days into it it’s sending me over hyper especially in the mornings and it tailors off in the afternoon and I get depressed again… pretty much expected in a AD alone in someone Bipolar… the only over AD to do that was Prozac 7 years ago only I was a lot worse like a kid on e-numbers! Lol

I really want to add a mood stabiliser now so looks like I am going to have to be extra careful with my BS

The mood stabilizers shouldn't affect your blood sugar...just the anti-psychotics, and not all people with bi-polar will need that. Good luck to you!
