So glad you went to your appt! Did you doc say anything about metformin or did she just want you to do BCP's?
i did not think the doctor was helpful at all. she was not very friendly and did not have a very good bedside manner and all she told me to do was lose weight to reverse my symptoms and "if I stay slim and thin i could go off the Pill" she didn't set forth any goals for me to work towards so I was very frustrated. i didn't even bother asking about metformin because she claimed that according to my last set of blood test that my insulin levels were normal. i never want to go back to this doctor because she left a bad impression on me.

someone else i know with PCOS recommended me a nutritionist who has PCOS herself and specializes in PCOS nutrition that I am going to see once i get my test results back.

i feel like the pill isnt working because i'm angry and depressed all the time and testosterone causes anger so i think i have too much testosterone. i'm also exercising every day and watching my diet but on the inside i'm not feeling too great.

this is hell for me and i want it to go away

I must have read the wrong post...well let's find you a dr. that you feel comfortable...maybe that nutrionist will work for you...only can she prescribe meds? That would be my question. If she can't then you might want to find a dr. as well. As for nutrition and what to eat, what not to I'm sure she'd be great, especially if she has PCOS. If you aren't able to go to her there's a book called The Insulin Resistance Diet (more of a lifestyle not a diet though). Anyway it's shorter and very easy to read. I sat down and read it in one afternoon. Great tips about when eating carbs to always eat protein and things like that.

So...are you at all open to anti-depressants? I was on them since I was 14. I just went off about a month ago because my husband and I are trying to have a baby. Anyway..very hard to get off, BUT I would do it again in a heartbeat if I thought I needed to be on them again. It might not be right for you, but just thought I'd mention it. With PCOS your hormones are all over the board. By the way...the pill doesn't usually help with moodiness. What brand are you on and how long?

there's a thread on here too where you can go to ask about dr's in certain areas or recommend one. I think I remember you living in PA...see if that works and if not. I think it's important to find a dr that's open to things like metformin. My dr. didn't even do a blood test, he just knew by looking at where I was putting my weight, how fast I put it on that I needed the metformin. The diet WILL help and there are some natural things you can do too. Cinnamon is natural and found at walmart. The recommended dose has helped some women and I take it on top of my met. Sorry for the novel All of these things helped me so I thought I'd offer it up

Keep me updated and when will you be able to send private messages (after how many posts?)

Hope those test results get in soon!

Are you open to anti-depressants....or did you just start feeling this way AFTER you went ON the pill? That would frustrate me as well....I do know ortho-tricyclene is sort of bad for moodiness....it does take a couple of months for your body to get use to the pill. How long are you giving each pill brand a shot? It's disappointing that you felt that way on YAz...it's usually pretty good. Let me know when you get your results in.

well I gave orthotricyclen about a month and a half and i just went off it 2 days ago. i feel like a completely different person, and yes, the depression started because of the Pill. I have given each pill brand up to 2 months but my family can't stand it anymore and neither can I. I'm thinking of trying the patch or the ring. Have any experience with either of those?

I haven't tried the patch or the ring. Have you tried posting some of this stuff on the BCP board yet? that's one area where I've had good luck....I was on some ortho's when I first went on and was WAY too moody so I feel your pain. I can't remember when I switched over to YAZ, but it worked for me, but that doesn't help you.

I'm sorry I don't have experience with those. Do you know about IUD's. I know that there's a brand that doesn't have hormones, wondering if that might be an option. No hormones...no mood swings. You still ovulate, but I believe the IUD prevents the egg from being fertilized.

Keep me posted.

Well the news is that my endo approved of my stopping the Pill because of the side effects and said that the patch or the ring wouldn't be much better choices if I didn't respond well to the Pill. I'm still on Spiro even though my endo is worried because she said that if I am on it without birth control and eventually get pregnant, it could cause birth defects in the baby, but that's not an issue because I'm neither in a relationship nor sexually active. So basically I just have to take Provera (which I didn't have a problem with last time I took it) for whenever my endo prescribes it.

How's the provera treating you? I've been thinking about you and how everything is working out. Are your moods more balanced now off the pill? I've got a girlfriend who is going through the same thing as you. I think I've mentioned this before, but she is going to do a non-hormonal IUD, but with PCOS that wouldn't help you because it's the hormones in the pill that are stopping you from getting any cysts. Not sure if you get those or not. Just checking in
