Default Are you out there lil' cyster?

I'm available as a big cyster

I was diagnosed in 1993 or 1995, I can't remember now, hehe... I was about 18, so it must have been 1993 I had caught mononucleosis from my first kiss and when I was at the doctor getting checked she started asking me about my cycle and I told her I had never started, so she referred me to an ob/gyn, I had some blood work drawn, an ultrasound, and whammo bammo I had been diagnosed with PCOS. At that time the internet was just getting going, so if you searched for something in yahoo, you only got a handful of pages to look at. I did manage to find some information and learned what I could. Eventually I came to a place where I didn't have health insurance for a while, so I dropped the birth control pills and spironolactone that I was using to treat my symptoms.

Fast forward 15 years, I'm almost 34 and I was married on May Day this year (we eloped ). I decided I better start getting my PCOS under control so we can start our family soon. I got online and was amazed at how much info was now available and so happy to find this fabulous website started by Kat Carney (Thanks Kat!). I'm currently using nutrition, fitness, medication, supplements, and meditation to manage my symptoms.

My PCOS symptoms are wacky periods that come whenever desired, every two weeks, every three months, I never know unless I am on birth control pills and even those don't always help to keep me regular. Break outs on my face and back, and I also have some hair issues, both excess and loss. Weight has always been a trouble for me since my hormones hit with puberty in fourth grade, and I am managing it with nutrition and fitness. I have also had issues with depression, PTSD, and anxiety, which through counseling and medication, I have finally got under control! :-)

I work part time as a Mad Scientist doing after school science programs in grade schools and I am on the WSU Master Gardeners Endowment board. I like to be surf the internet when I can. I love to garden and have spent the summer harvesting all the veggies to freeze and can. I have a dog named Matlock who is by my side all the time I am also very artsy and love to do all sorts of projects... embroidery, scrapbooking, paintings, wood work... I really enjoy reading too. My biggest passion is probably food and I love to cook! Probably also why I enjoy growing my own food too.

I look forward to hearing from a lil' sis! If you don't have enough posts to PM (private message) yet, leave a comment on my public profile I'll get it and reach out to you (to find a public profile, click on someone's name in the top left corner of a post and select public profile)

hi bentjadeh!
im also 19 and yesterday a doctor just diagnosed me havin pcos.
you're not alone..
hehe..

keep up the spirit!

i read many strong women's writing in this site, and i guess nothing to be feared, it's just how we can manage ourself to reach the balace condition between our hormones. although it needs a hard work!

so, let's start!!
^_^

anyway, my doctor give me no medications at all. he said i just need to lose 5% of my weight which is now 50 kg. how about you? im a bit confused about this, do you think i should see another doctor?

Hi, I'm 22, but I would love to have a big cyster if that's okay. I'm still in college (5th year) and I was diagnosed in 1998 or 1999, I think 1999. I never really had a lot of problems until recently, though. When I was first diagnosed, I actually had one doctor refuse to do a blood test and tell me I didn't have PCOS because the only symptom I had was the weird periods and acne, but my GYN said he was almost positive I had it because everything else came back negative, so he sent me to another endo who did blood tests and checked my hormone levels, and sure enough I have PCOS. A couple years ago, I started having problems with insulin resistance causing hypoglycemia, and now that I am getting that under control, I'm having weight gain issues. I am also starting to notice some body hair issues, but my endo says that they aren't too bad (I don't know, maybe they aren't but they bother me). Basically I feel like it's hitting me hard now, and I don't know how to deal with all the symptoms because they never hit like this before, so I'd like someone to be able to talk to about how the dealt with these things. Anyone willing to be my big cyster?

Hey you three newer ladies Just thought I'd offer up a hello and let one of us know if you have any questions. I know it can feel quite scary right after you get diagnosed...what does it all mean. If I had to give one piece of advice I'd say to trust your gut instinct. I had 4 doctors tell me that my weight gain was just because I was muscular....finally the 5th doctor said that bothered him and turns out I was right. I had PCOS...I had just never heard of it before, but I KNEW something was wrong. Anyway..find a doc you trust and like and knows something about PCOS. Met has worked wonders for me with the weight and it is possibly regulating my cycle, which is huge....if you don't have a regular cycle and you are not on met at least get on the pilll to regulate. It's not healthy to "not" have a period every so often to flush everything out. It can lead to uterine cancer. Anyway, what little info this is I hope it helps and feel free to email me any other questions or if you ever feel lost

Happy New Year!

Thanks Leigh for the invite over here...

Name: Christina
Age: 30
Married: Aug 2000
year diagnosed: 2002 after a struggle at TTC
Children: Three beautiful girls, two that live with DH and I (ages 4 and 3) and one in Heaven living with Jesus (she went there in Aug at 15 weeks gestation)
I am a thin(ish) cyster with extra facial hair, abnormal periods (if i don't take anything), skin tags, and I was told my parent's high blood pressure also can be a factor. I have sworn off hormonal birth control due to becoming crazy (depressed and excitable) on it. I went to college to be a teacher, but never made it to a classroom of my own as life seemed to get in the way...

I would love to talk to anyone that needs any help!
