I just saw on "The Biggest Loser" that Julie on the black team has polycystic Ovaries. Finally we are getting some TV coverage, lets hope it gets us some attention.

I saw that as well. And she even discussed it a bit on the air! I wonder if she knows about soulcysters...

I think she'll be the first to go off of the black team (if and when they face elimination) unless she can step it up and lose some more. Five pounds in two weeks isn't much when you're on TBL. IRL it's a great amount to lose. I hope that they are tailoring the diet towards PCOS for her.
I hope Julie hangs in there! Poor thing lost only 5lbs and like you all said, that's awesome in the real world, but on that show it would make you a target to get eliminated. I hope she sticks around longer and gets to her goal. And spreads the word about PCOS, too!

I was excited to see a cyster on TV! And I can relate to her slower weight loss, and I hope that they are mindful of her PCOS so they can maximize her ability to lose. Hopefully they are letting her do low carb or something!

I hope Julie goes far too but I don't think that they tailor anything for her (which is UNFAIR!!!).

I saw this posted on Julie's myspace page:
What were you thinking when you found out you had only lost five pounds after sweating it out in the desert for two weeks?I will be honest, I was discouraged. Very discouraged. Because I had followed everything I was told to do and worked so hard, and I got what some would consider unimpressive results. Many contestants made mention on last night's show that "in the real world" a three pound weight loss in a week would be great! But on The Biggest Loser, when everything is ramped up a notch, it was a disappointment. However, one of the unexpected benefits of this show is the outstanding medical care we receive. And as I mentioned, my medical condition of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) both causes a person to gain weight more easily and prevents them from losing it as easily. But, through some of the medical consultation I received on the show, that problem has been addressed and is improving. And in the scope of things, I'd rather lose five pounds than gain five.
