i've been taking biotin and using nioxin shampoo for about 2 weeks and my hair definitely looks thicker and my skin looks better. It's hard to notice from afar, but there's some new hair growing in too. If you want the best results possible, I would suggest taking a super potency 5000mcg brand once a day.

I suggest the same thing. I also really like Nioxin (I had been using Nizoral, but I was wary to use it daily and will probably just use it a couple of times a week since it's medicated) - just started it. I know my hair hasn't grown back miraculously in just a few days, but it does feel thicker and it makes my hair feel very clean and light.

I take 5000mcg per day of biotin...and...since you asked:

100mg spironolactone
ortho cyclen bcp
325mg ferrous gluconate (iron)
2000 IUs vitamin D
super potency vitamin-B complex
vitamin C (can't remember dosage)
fish oil
prenatal vitamins

Something's working...not sure which...most likely a combo of everything

Hey, I noticed you take ferrous gluconate, is that the same as ferrous sulphate? Im asking because I was taking the ferrous sulphate for my low iron stores but it kept giving me diarrhea so I had to stop. Does the ferrous gluconate give diarrhea? thanks

I started taking Biotin 5mg (5000mcg) daily about 2 months ago. I do feel that my hair has grown in thicker and that I lose less hair in my brush every day. I don't sense that my hair strands are actually thicker but I feel I do have more hair, and have little poufs of new growth about an inch or so long to prove it. I tried Nioxin but it totally dried out my hair. I may try some Nizoral soon because I keep getting little flakes (different form dandruff) of dry patchy scalp and also strange acne. I think I've got tinea, and Nizoral is the stuff to get rid of it.

When I was having hairloss problems, I never found biotin to do all that much. I had to get all my hormones in order to change the male-pattern baldness. I took it on the theory it couldn't hurt, but I didn't see it have much effect on my hair.

Ferrous gluconate and ferrous sulphate are both iron supplements, just different forms. I'm surprised it gave you diarrhea...iron supplements usually have the opposite effect on me! I know a lot of people who take iron supplements complain of upset stomache and constipation...I've had a little constipation on the ferrous gluconate but not too bad...more like "slow moving" than truly constipated.

I'm bumping this topic because I'd like to know how Fleegle4 got her hormones in order! Was it exercise and healthy eating or did you also use supplements/meds? Please share what worked for you!

Kohina, would you say biotin also works for skin? Does it help with acne or with dry skin? Btw, you've got a nice head of hair on the pic in your avatar! I'd never guessed you suffer(ed) hairloss!
