Question Biotin?

I have been reading a lot of posts about people using B-12 to help re-grow hair. I have lost about half my hair at this point, so I went to the vitamin store and asked for B-12, the woman who helped me had lost a lot of her hair due to hormonal problems (not PCOS). So she recommended using Biotin instead, she had great results with it, and it is meant to help with hair loss. I did a little research on Biotin and it is used for hair re-growth, as well as for people with type 2 diabetes, it is supposed to improve glucose tolerance. So has anyone tried it, or heard anything about it, I am currently taking Metformin, but I would love to start taking this if it will help! Thanks!

(She recommended 5 mg once a day, as it says on the bottle)

Many of the cysters taking B-12 are doing so because they're also on Metformin, which can lead to the need for extra B-12.

Years ago, I took biotin, and my hair and nails 'did' grow faster.

That said, have you talked to your doctor about getting your androgens tested and treated? Biotin might make your hair grow faster, but if androgen sensitivity or excess are leading to fall out, you may still have problems.

Does biotin cause excessive hair growth on the face??

Thanks for responding, my doctor has tested my androgen levels and they were off, she put me on Metformin. So, since it's my androgen levels that are out of whack, will the biotin do nothing at all? Or is it worth a try?

I don't really know anything else about biotin. I only started taking it because I was on a low carb diet, at the time which was causing even more hair loss than the pcos.

You might find more info on these threads:

I thought I should share my good results with Biotin since I haven't

Vitamin B-Complex Formulas (B vitamins and PCOS)

Thicker hair on Biotin

Biotin

anyone know if?

Thanks everyone! I started taking 5mg of Biotin last night, so I'm crossing my fingers that after time it might do something! I'm also going to talk to my doctor about B-12 and if I should be taking any other vitamins. Our first couple of appoinments were kind of crazy trying to go over everything, so next time I'll bring up vitamin supplements. Thanks again!!

I think Biotin is a good course of action as long as you take it with other things like anti-androgens or rogaine.

I too am takining 5mg of biotin daily...as well as 2500 mcg b12 for my hair loss. My question is: When does everyone take their vitamins? I am also taking metformin so I just take everything at the same time. Is this ok? or should I be spreading everything apart. Please let me know

Thanks!

That's a good question! I just take mine all at the same time as well, I have found that most vitamins make my stomach upset and so does the Met, so I take all of my pills with my biggest meal. But I'm not sure if it's better to take them apart???
