Provera is prescribed to induce AF, yes, because the reality of BCPs is that the AF you get while taking them is not a real AF in the sense of shedding uterine lining. BCPs just keep you "regular" in various ways after you get rid of the excess lining.
I personally would contact the doctor or wait for your appointment to ask about it before starting the BCP, but I think I've heard of it going both ways (need AF before starting BCPs, or it's okay to just take them anyway). It can also take a while for AF to start after you use the Provera.
