I am newly diagnosed and for the most part due not believe it is the best thing for my body to take birth control. However with this new diagnosis my world is turned upside down.
I am not trying to conceive so my doctor wants me to be on a birth control to regulate my cycles. I have not menstruated in 6 months.

Do the anti-androgen effects of the various birth control pills only last while you are taking them or is there long term benefit?

Hi Michelle,

Unfortunately, none of the effects of birth control last past the time that you take them. Just as the pregnancy protection only works with the hormones from the pill in your system, so does the hair loss, moodiness, skin-clearing, or any of the other effects of changing your body's chemistry.

I am in the same boat as you, as my fourth doctor has just told me that it's birth control pills or high levels of LH. It's really a choice between one hormone problem or another for me. But, according to four MDs, the benefits outweigh the side effects and risks.

I wish you luck with your treatment and encourage you to research alternative treatments.
