I think that what the person you spoke with meant was not that they were in any way contraindicated, but that met (hopefully!) will normalize your hormones and cause you to ovulate. Consequently, this can render your BCP less effective especially if it is not strong enough to control your cycle with the extra jump that met gives it. In my experience, I was on a bcp that wasn't controlling my hormones completely so that when I added met, I ended up with no cycle control at all (ovulating on the pill!!!). In this case, the met worked very well for me and did its job while the bcp did not. My hormones went crazy and I felt like these two medications were waging war against each other for control of my body. I switched to a different pill and that totally solved the problem. With the right bcp, I think that these medicines work extremely well together. There are alot of other cysters who can attest to that! However, the right bcp is the key. Don't be overly concerned if you are currently or are considering taking both together, but I would definitely watch for any signals that the bcp seems to not be working for you and discuss any changes in hormones, symptoms or cycle control with your doctor. |
