Default Different BCPs I've tried

Ortho-cyclen - good for regulating the pain from cramps but not totally effective to get monthly cycles on track

Ortho tri cyclen - thought it was a wonder drug at the beginning but the pain quickly escalated and hair growth increased

Desogen - made me feel yucky and miserable

Seasonale - minimal pain, good hormone regulation (as far as I can tell, been on it almost 6 full months), minimal hair growth

Still looking for the one that helps with all the symptoms but haven't found it just yet.

I am using the vitamins & pogesterone cream from this website, 3 weeks into tham i noticed a huge difference. It reccomends a low carb eating diet The schwarzbein Principal. Check it out it is ll natural. I believe if I did have the bad reaction from Metformin (which I started 3 weeks after the vitamins I would really be on a great path to a Healthier me. Just on vitamins & cream having regular periods now. It's worth a shot. Feel free to ask me any questions. Hope this helps.

I started on BDP when I was only 12 almost 13. They did regulate my periods for a short time and then I began having long irregular periods. Sometimes my periods would last for months. I was hospitalized a few times with particularly long ones. By the time I was 14 I had my first episode of acute pancreatitis. It was at this time that I was diagnosed with PCOS. The cause of this episode was never determined. I believe it to be caused by the strain on my pancreas due to my IR. At the age of 19 I became annovulatory. I've found that my symptoms were much worse than most teenagers with PCOS. Perhaps the advance in my condition was increased by the use of BCP starting at such a young age.

I should print this out and mail it to every doctor that fought me when I didn't want to be on BCP'S. Glad I finally have a doc that believes that it's not the 'gold standard' of treatment anymore. Thanks Kat for this article!

I was on bcp's Ortho-novum 777 since the age of 11. I stopped them myself when I was 20. After I stopped them I could go 4-6-8 months with out any bleeding. I was 16 when I was told I had pcos. My reg gym never knew. Now I see another one who put my back on ortho-novum the generic Nortel for six months to regulate my cycles. I start Clomid in October. I hated beening on the bcp's but what could I do? IS it ok to be on bcp's for that long like nine years straight with out stopping to take a break? Why didn't my reg gym recongize my systoms?

I was put on the pill when I was 16 because of irregular periods. I was on it until I got pregnant when I was 25. I had my children and three years ago, I got my tubes tied. Now no pill and no pregnancy hormones.

PCOS raged (I never knew I had it), and I just finally got diagnosed today, I am 34. All my tests are fine. No problems with glucose, insulin, cholesterol, thyroid, nothing. BUT, she said my ratio (I am sure you know more than me on this, and know what I am talking about. ) is 4:1, that is why she said I have PCOS.

What did she prescribe? The pill. So now I am 34, with my tubes tied, about to go back on the pill. I have always had good luck with the pills I have been on. I was on Ortho Novum way back in the day, and then I went on Ortho Tri Cyclen for my acne. It worked wonders!! But this time around she wants me on Mircette. She said Ortho Tri Cyclin makes people too moody, I liked it, had no problems.

So I am not sure what I am going to do. I definately want the hair to stop falling out. It is making me cry. And I had no hair loss on the pill.

WOW. I have been on BCPs ever since I was 17 I think...I'm now 32. At first, they were too strong and I stopped taking them...consequently that's how I got pregnant. I stopped them just a few days prior to getting PG. After my son was born (age 19) I had a depo shot as they wouldn't let me leave the hospital without being on some sort of brith control (being an unwed mother and all). I bled for 3 months non-stop. After that I was put on tri-levelin (tri-phasil) and have been on them ever since. I stopped them in February. I have often wondered if it was bad to be on bcps for so long. I never imagined that it could actually be making me worst...or sick. Very interesting.

I have been on Yasmin for a year now. Havent had any problems. It is the only way I can have a period but I have just been informed that being on BCP's too long can cause infertility. Has anyone else heard this? I was only going to stay on them until I finished losing all the weight I wanted to. Hoping to have that done by this time next year. Now I am debating on getting off of them.

Great info! I will seek the care of an endocrinologist after my pregnancy since my OB/GYN only recommends BCP for treatment.

Unhappy BC as damage control

I have tried many many treatment options over the years, and tried as long as I could not to be on meds. The last few years, however, my ovaries have gotten much worse, and my doctor pretty much said that I had to go on strong BC and occasional other hormones to protect myself from getting worse as much as possible. I can't take metaformin, because my blood sugars run very low. For a while I had to be on Provera and BC at the same time (thank the Lord that rollercoaster is over!). According to my dr. if we can't get my progress under control surgery on my ovaries is the only next step. The pain had gotten so bad that I was passing out on a regular basis. After trying many different types of BC I am on Seasonal which is up there with Depo as my last two options, and the risks of Depo are much too high for me. My pain has reduced by about half, and I am menstrating some again. I have also lost about 30lbs without any other changes. So, I'm not sure that I am a BC lover...but right now, its the best thing I've got.

I thought this was well known??! My doctor told me of this when I first went on BCPs before I was diagnosed after asking about family history of diabetes etc.

I am on it now for contraceptive purposes only as other options aren't feasible.

I just talked to my gyn about bcp's making IR worse, and he claims that they actually make it better, just wondering, since this was an old artice, if there is anything resent to back up his claim that it makes IR better. Thanks for any help!
