Sorry if I got this wrong, but you're taking birth control while you're trying to conceive?? well, let me tell you, that certainly won't work.

Birth control pills help PCOS women to regulate the bleeding, to get the regular shedding of the uterus lining, but it works only as long as you're on them. In other words; BCP is NOT a cure for PCOS, the effect it has stops when you stop using the pill. It only helps with irregular bleeding, acne, excess hair for those who don't want to get pregnant.

Definitely if you wish to get pregnant, you need to stop taking BCP; you won't get pregnant while you're on it, that why it's called BCP. And Metformin is a good option, especially if you're overweight and it might help to get a regular menstrual cycle and therefore better chances to get pregnant. If that won't work you can try other drugs, like Clomid which is a follicle stimulating drug and it might help too. But for these things you really need to talk to your gyno and tell her/him that you wish to conceive.

I've been on bcp for 16 years. After reading this article I have just stopped taking it. Wish me luck that the weight comes off and that I don't have any long term health problems....

I agreed it should not be used for long term as it masks problems you have had

I took bcp when I was younger after my first child, it did help with regulating my periods but I don't take them now because of the increased risk with increased age.

I was on bcp for 10 years before going off them to ttc. Some of the PCOS symptoms came through the bcp (large ovarian cyst rupture, sudden weight gain, excessive hair growth). That was the first hint that something was wrong Now I'm worried all those years that I didn't want to be a mother, if that has somehow become permanent now that I want to get pregnant.
