I am hoping to pick everyone's brain about their experiences with birth control pills. I have a long history with different birth control pills and have many questions. Are most women with PCOS on BCPs? If so, is there one most likley to be of help, or is every woman different? If you are on the pill, is it a compromise and only partial help, or does it do you a lot of good?
My tubes are tied. I take BCP to try to help with my horrid PMS and the fact that I have gone up to 7 months with no period but still have horrid hormonal symptoms each month, including PMS with out the period.
I was on Ortho Tricyclin for years never suspecting that it was what made me irritable and cranky.
I tried several different low estrogen varieties and had non stop beeding, felt very blue, and had no interest in sex. I tried a different low estrogen pill and I felt pretty good, no interest in sex, but I was very irritated with my husband all of the time.
Yasmin was not a good fit for me at all, I bled and felt nutty.
Seasonalle made me break out in hives.
Switched to Levora which is high in estrogen, and have been on that one for over two years. It helped the PMS somewhat, but my sex drive was very low. The one good thing was that I was irritable only during the PMS time period. I found I had hot flashes and some interesting emotional response during the period pills and the first 4 days of a new packet. I almost never did more than a tiny bit of spotting for one day during my "period".
I am in my second week of my first packet of Yaz. The first three days I was very tired, but apart from that I have had no symptoms. After reading many horror stories, this may be a good sign...? My breasts are not sore, I am not blue, I do not feel looney the way that I do during my PMS days. I am not having any breakthrough bleeding, and I notice my sex drive returning. Dare I hope that I may not go insane this month? Is there anything I should be watching for?
If anyone can share their experiences I would appreciate it, especially if you have tried Yaz. Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
The doctors are wanting to put me on Yaz, I have been on Yasmin for years now....but BCP's never changed me at all.....my periods was hell but as far as that I am good.

I'm on Yaz, just switched in January as the NP said it was better for women with PCOS. It's been ok. I've had some spotting, and now it seems I'm getting my period a week before I start the inactive pills. Not sure if that's good or bad. It's ok, but I think I liked Loestrin better.

I *heart* Yaz. I had bleeding for the first three weeks (but I also started AF the day after starting the pack, ugh), and got really, really tired/yucky feeling. But all the months after that first one have been fabulous. It's great for me.

That is so good to hear. I am in the third week and doing ok. Still feel a bit iffy, but nothing like I normally do the week before my period. So far, so good.
I have tried sooo many different BCP and the only one that my body likes is Demulen/Zovia 1/35. It was the first one I started when I was 19 and first diagnosed with PCOS. I have had absolutely no PMS, my periods are nice and light, all systems go BCP all come with different synthetic progesterone, so before you switch, make sure to look up which progesterone your current pill that you don't like is. And make sure you don't switch to another pill with the same progesterone.
For me Yasmin was a nightmare... everything the commercials say it is suppose to take away, it gave me I sat on the couch with migraines and upset stomach and raging moodiness for two weeks until DH said to stop it, it wasn't worth suffering through to get use to it like Dr said to do. So I emailed Dr said I'm not taking it anymore, please write Rx for Demulen 1/35 and now I am happy as a bear witha bucket of honey
i used to take Ortho Tri Cyclen (both regular and the low dose). both of them made my PMS OUT OF CONTROL!!! I had too much break through bleeding when on Yasmin, but so far on Yaz (almost a year now), i am doing fine. i think my PMS has leveled off... it's still bad, but not like it used to be. but no break through bleeding, yay! and my skin is way better than it used to be, thank God.
Hey ladies! I have a question. . . I went off birth control 2 years ago to start TTC but once I went off the pills I gained 35 pounds. Has anyone else had this problem? I want to lose weight before I get pregnant but neither seems to be happening. Help! !
Ive been on Yaz for about a month...I started them a couple days after I stopped my period. I made it till about 3-4 days before I had to take the white pills, I went ahead and took the white ones, figured it would just let it do its thing and be done with it. This period has been horrible...almost doubled over, huge clots, soaking threw a Super tampon in less than an hour That Hysterectomy is looking more and more pleasant.
I have also tried Ortho Tricyclen and Yaz. I became very depressed on both these BCP's after about a week of being on them. I think I am one of the few that do not tolerate the synthetic estrogen. Still looking for a BCP that will work for me!
Good luck with Yaz. Many women do very well on this pill. I've heard that spotting is common but switching to Yasmin usually makes that go away. Yasmin has a little more estrogen in it.

I went on Yaz after having surgery to remove a huge cyst (lost my ovary too ) I've only been on it a little over a month. My period was way way lighter this month. PMS and all still the same tho. I have 1 more month of samples so we'll see next month if I want to stay on it or not.
My doctor told me that the relief of heavy periods will come in months 3-4. My first period was heavy too. And I was moody and had headaches. Second month was better. Third month has been WONDERFUL as far as the period, cramping, PMS and so on goes. I didn't take a single pain pill for the first time in my life this last cycle! I was so happy. So hang in there.
I think unless you are having really severe symptoms, it's worth staying on a certain type of pill for at least 3 months. It's then that most of the nuisance side effects go away and it really starts to kick in. But if the symptoms are still there after 3 months, then I guess it's worth switching. Or if you feel REALLY bed that first month, I guess you have to stop it. I am glad I powered through it so far because this month has been fantastic.
My only gripe with Yasmin is heartburn the first week I start up each cycle. That seems to be going on still and I am wanting it to go away. So if I still have it for another 1 to 2 cycles, I am going to have to get something different. Maybe Yaz.
i took ortho tri and low when i was younger...i had NO problems. in the past few years ive been on the patch and the ring which both made me super sick when id start the new on...so i did the ring in for three weeks, three times in a row, then a week off(so nine weeks in with three diff rings and on wk off) that worked...now im on yaz b/c of pcos and for the first time in my life i have PMS!!! bad mood all the time, cramps, back pain...wtf!? i dont know what my problems is w/ bcp but i feel like i have to stay on yaz for the pcos!!!!
