Default Bisphenol A from plastic worsen PCOS??

This information is a few years old, so many of you might be more aware then I am, but I thought I would share just in case...

A friend just told me that my Naglene water bottle (that I drink from daily) is a "bad" plastic, #7. I did a little research on the net and decided that it is worth it to switch to another plastic (#5PP, #2HDPE, #4LDPE) or another material all together (glass is the best). Basically what caught my attention was that Bisphenol A (which leaks from #7 plastic) is a xenoestrogen (an endocrine disruptor) so it disturbs the hormonal messaging in our bodies. Don't need anymore of that with PCOS!!! Bisphenol leaks from plastic #7, as well as, cans (especially soda cans-I used to drink a ton of that!). Anyway, I thought I would share.

Also anyone planning to use bottles with your babies or sippy cups with your children might want to check the plastic # on the bottom of them. Especially if you have girls, they are already at a higher risk for PCOS genetically.

Here is a link to one of the many articles I read:

I read that in one of my PCOS books, can't remember which one, and since then I've changed my drink bottle regulary and never wash it or leave it in the sun.
I also notice that on my current bottle ('Pump' for anyone interested) it says on the side 'Caution: Please take me with you, don't leave me in direct sunlight'.

Say it ain't so! I absolutely LOVE my Nalgene bottle...but for my health I'll give it up! I looked at the stainless steel ones, I don't know...I may have to ease into those. I'll at least try the Nalgene HDPE ones...yikes!

That is so true - these xenoestrogens cause alot of endocrine disruption, including eostrogen dominance which can be common in women with pcos.

You also get xenoestrogens from the contraceptive pill - my GP just mentioned this to me.

Parabens and many of the chemicals found in cosmetics, shampoos and conditioners, skin care products etc also contain endocrine disruptors.

There are heaps of great alternatives out there, natural or organic products.

You can buy glass baby bottles and ditch the plastic ones.

Sigg water bottles are great for your water - they are lined with a special lining that doesn't leach plastic or chemicals into the water.

Kate.
