Dryden is about 10,000 people between Winnipeg and Thunder Bay on the Trans Canada Hwy.
We started telling some of our close friends and family that we were going to start the adoption process, everyone is extremely excited!!! I told my mother and all she said was "oh" and carried on with her conversation, and she's my family reference, so this will be lots of fun!!!! My parents haven't brought up the topic again, it's a little disapointing that we don't seem to have full support from my family....arg
Anyone else had reactions like this???

You DO have the full support of your family...alot of times they dont know what to say or what to make of it all...
We hardly talked about it with our family (other than our parents and gram) until it was like a month away...
I think it was becuz people didnt want to get too excited becuz there are so many if's and's and what'if's ya know ?
We had to keep our spirits up just by concentrating on it and updating our family despite the appearance of lack of interest...
Now our son is here and we can't peel them off him !
It will change, and get better as the reality of it all sets in and the time gets closer...
Just expect to lean on your hubbie for alot of support and vice versa...
Crap I didnt even get a shower :o LOL
Hope it gets better for you
Amy

Our support is well unknown lol, our close friends that have children are extremely supportive and excited, the response i got from a child hood friends, was " oh yeah? that's good" but she's so rapped up in her own life sometimes...
I told my mother, and asked her to do a reference letter and all she said was "oh ", the subject has never been brought up again. I guess they don't want grandchildren that bad!!!
I t was very upsetting not to have the full support from your family!!! My husband's family is great, they are all excited and allways asking questions...
At Christmas, we're both going to call my parents on it and see what their problem is!!!
We are very nervous about the home studdy!!
What was the hardest part of it for you?????
Thanks, and good luck to everyone!!

Don't be too terribly worried about the homestudy...in fact for us that was one of the easiest parts ! The worker who does your homestudy is there to help you become a family not hinder you. Be your loving selves and be natural
The actual hardest part for us was waiting....it never seemed quite real until we were handed our boy, even though we got on a plane and travelled 1/2 way cross the world
Your family will come around after the baby comes, trust me....My mom calls here and asks for my son she doesnt want to talk to me LOL
I am here if you need anything else or just to chat

I am happy that you are taking the step and going for adoption.
DH and I applied back in August and have heard only that the waiting list to take their mandatory class is 18 months. We are looking into domestic and international adoption subsequentlly.
Amy, how long did it take you from first home study till when your son came home? Any info you could give would help us all. I know you live near me so your experiences would be similar to mine.
Maybe you could even suggest who did your home study?? I have sent a note off to one gentlemen but he never responded.
Good luck Naturegirl.
Jenn

Hey! I noticed that you are scheduled for Ovarian Drilling. I am going 12-29 to have Bilateral Ovarian Wedge Resection. I was just wondering what your dr. has told you about these procedures. I posted a thread about it and not many people had good things to say. But I've discussed it with my dr. and he makes me feel good about it. Did your dr. mention both and give you the choice between the two or did he just suggest the drilling? I'll make sure to let you know how my surgery goes. Good luck with yours and with the adoption. My husband and I have discussed that also, and are currently waiting to get into classes to become foster parents. We all need love ;-)

Good luck on your surgery!!!
The doctor only suggested the ovarian drilling, and from what i know, they go in with a laser and punch holes in the ovaries, and that's it, go home the same day!!!
I'll keep u posted on my surgery as well!!!
