Just got a quick question (hope I dont confuse you guys too lol).
Right, basically this is what im a bit confused about: - Is it the cysts that cause the hormone imbalance or is it the hormone imbalance that causes the cysts?
Some ladies have cysts, but don't have PCOS, some have PCOS and no cysts. From what I've read PCOS is something women can be born with and it can show up as cysts, weight gain, facial hair, etc. The symptoms are different with each lady. Some ladies find when they get their hormones in check the cysts go away completely.
I don't usually have cysts (when I do have one it goes away on its own), but I definitely have PCOS. Treatment of PCOS may result in fewer cysts, but I don't think it's a direct cause and effect sort of thing.

I don't know the answer, but when I read the question I thought of "Which came first the chicken or the egg?"
From the way that my Dr explained it to me, the hormone imbalance leads to the "chain of pearls" cysts.
PP are right, you don't have to have PCOS to get cysts, and you can have PCOS and not have cysts. If you have both PCOS and cysts, it's the messed up hormone levels that are causing the cysts. At least that is the way that I understood it. If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me.
