I went to the doctor last Monday and he called in a script for Met 500mg for me on Wednesday. I've kept putting off taking it, and I think I know why.
There's all this literature with it that basically makes it sound like you *will* get the Lactic Acidosis thing. Plus, it says to make sure to follow the diet that your doctor gave you...my doctor didn't even talk to me about Met other than to say it might help.
There's even something in the information saying that I need to wear or carry something that says I take Met. I've never taken anything like that before and I'm scared.
I guess I'm just wondering if I'm over-worrying. Was anyone else scared to start Met?

Hey-I think all that scary literature with Met is because the writers are thinking about true diabetics, you know? You know the "follow the diet your doctor gave you" type of thing--same for the med I.D. bracelet. It was a med originially only intended for diabetics so the drug company gears all it's info towards that audience.
The drug company also has to list every possible side effect known to man that ever has occured. It really is such a great drug for us PCOSers. Start it, girl!
I agree I have been on Met for two years and the releif it gave me was fantastic. I actually feel human again!
Most medical literature is done as an a$$ covering exercise, there is a small chance someone could get it so they have to warn everyone otherwise of someone does get it they can sue for not being warned about it.
In Australia we can discuss the meds with the Pharmacist when he gives you the meds. My pharmacist is great he sat down and told me all the details of the meds before I went home.
The key to the Lactic Acidosis thing is to stay well hydrated when exercising and be aware of the symptoms just in case.
Hope you can ease your fears hon cause its a big help for me.

CHeck out the FAQ thread on this forum. The research I did on met showed that the average Lactic acidosis risk was aomething like .0008% or something. It was rare. The drug companies are just being thorough to being sued and losing money.
Definetly check out the thread..there is a ton of info and I think it will ease your mind:
