Default Blackheads!!

I use proactiv, and I don't have any real problems with pimples besides the occasional zit or two. It's the black heads that drive me nuts!!! I have them all over my nose, the top of my cheeks and my chin. Any suggestions?

I am wearing one of those Biore pore strips as I type this response. Blackheads drive me crazy as well!!!

Those strips help a bit...I recently purchased a pore scrub from St. Ives. It smells great and has a lot of grit to it so that it can really get down into them...maybe it will work.

Good luck finding something that works...I'm anxious to hear other suggestions as well.

Have you tried any of the blackhead astrigents or anything? i don't have a big problem with acne anymore either, but i do have the blackheads on my nose and chin... i do use the biore strips on my nose, and they work some... but you might try some kind of cleanser or astringent geared specifically toward blackheads and shrinking pores.... maybe that will help?? if i find something that works well for me i'll let you know!

Try applying plain yogurt like a mask, and exfoliate with it, then rinse. This works for my blackheads al of the time.

Egg white facial. Whip egg white to soft peak, apply and let dry. I can't do this often because it dries my skin too much, but it works on any type of blemish. If you are normal/oily, you could probably do this every 2-3 days. I have dry skin and can only do once per week, but still notice a big difference especially on the nose pores.

Default Testing 1,2,3!

Thank you for all the suggestions! I've decided to take a break from Proactiv to try to get rid of the blackheads, I'll post my results here so that anyone looking for a fix can find a quick one! It's probably a good thing I'm taking a break from Proactiv anyway since I have oily and sensitive skin and winter is drying it out like whoa! First thing I'm going to try is "Clean & Clear Blackhead Clearing Scrub." It says that there should be fewer blackheads in 2 days, but we shall see

Let us know for sure. With the yogurt, you'll find your skin feeling incredibly soft & smooth, too.

I had a lot of blackheads and large pores on my nose and chin. If you can afford a good facial, it'll do wonders. But the key is regular exfoliation from what my asthetician told me.

As far as daily cleaners go, IMO the absolute BEST products on the market are made by Lush. (usa.lush.com) I cannot recommend it highly enough. I've tried everything from proactive to anything on the market that says it will clear out your pores. Proactiv worked great for a while, but then, not so much.

I switched to Lush products and have been AMAZED at how well they work.

I use -
Facial Cleaner: Herbalism, Coalface and Fresh Farmacy
I started with Herbalism and while it worked AMAZING I wasn't too keen on the texture of the product. I switched to using Coalface in the a.m. and Fresh Farmacy in the p.m. and wow, it rocks. Totally cleared out my pores and they look smaller in just a couple of days.

Mask: Mask of Magnaminty
This is made for oily skin and makes your skin feel awesome. I use this every couple of days. A little goes a long way.

Moisturizer: Enzymion
Wonderful, wonderful product. Hydrates my dry areas and pulls oil away from the oily spots. No idea how it works, but it does.

If you give these a try, make sure to PM me and let me know how it works for you!

Best thing in the world to keep blackheads at bay (IMO of course) is Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask twice a week.

I have tons of blackheads too and I like the Biore strips. I also just end up squeezing them out (gross, I know!) which helps. I am going to try that yogurt mask and see if it works for me!

I think I'll give that yogurt mask a try. I went to the derm for a microdermbrasion sat and she removed a lot of the blackheads ouch!

Believe it or not I use granulated sugar mixed in with either a facial wash or plain soap. I don't do it a lot as it is really quite rough on the skin, maybe once every few weeks but it is great for the nose and the chin area, don't do it anywhere near the delicate eye area and don't do it if your skin is really sensitive.

I find Paula's Choice beta hydroxy acid either the lotion or gel really works. It's Cosmetics Cop and author extraordinaire Paula Begoun that sells them - she writes those books "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me". You can order her stuff online at www.cosmeticscop.com and also eBay sells some of her stuff too. I had a really good facial where the facialist steamed and squeezed out as much of my blackheads as possible and now I use the BHA acid lotion in the morning and the gel at night. It really has made a difference in the side and severity of my blackheads.

Good luck and let us know how you make out!
