    Unhappy Bladder Infections/ UTI's

I had nonstop uti's (urinary tract infections) for years. My doc once told me that some women just "have" this. I dont buy it. Do any other cysters out there experiance these on a regular basis?

Trust me, I have taken every precaution to stop them. I even stopped having sex for a while lol. I dont take baths or swim, I shower after intercoures, and urinate after intercourse. I drink cranberry, take cranberry pills, drink tons of water....I have changed my diet completely....basically any possible thing to help. Even antibiotics dont always help. I dont have one now.. thank God.....But I am wondering if perhaps they are related with PCOS?? Mabye sugar in the urine cause them? I heard people with diabetes get them alot as well. Any one else have them?

I battled with chronic UTI's as well. Have you seen a urologist for evaluation? That is the best person to see. There are a variety of tests they can do. It's not "normal" for anyone to have UTI's all the time. There is a condition however called interstitial cystisis. You may want to do a search and read up. It may sound like you.

My urologist did a cystoscopy in the hospital (after other tests came back okay) and evaluated my bladder. Then insert their tools into your urethra when you are under anesthesia. My doctor found that because of the repeated infections I had been collecting scar tissue in my urethra. This scar tissue was just extra breeding ground for the infection to grow. He cleaned the scar tissue out of there. Since I had that procedure done 4 years ago I have only had 1 UTI.

    Good luck to you.

They actually did that to me as well. and it was my uroligyst that said "some women just have naughty bladders" make me sick. I ohmost puked right on him after a comment like that. and the way he put it.....ewwwww gross!!!! Anyway, I took his advice with a grain of salt. I just dont want to do that procedure again...it was so uncomfortable!!!!! Were you awake/ or asleep when it happened? I have also been suffering from chronic yeast infections. Alot of fun eh?

    Yes,Yes and Yes!!

Here are some reasons to consider...

Sex(Clean carefully and urinate afterwards to clear it out)

Menstrale cycle(Not able to keep things as clean as we like..carry girly wipes when possible)

Swimming pools, baths, etc can cause them in "some" women.

    Endometreosis(linked directly to UTI's)

Cronic back pain associated with arthristis,
    pelvic inflamintory disease,
    degentitive disk disease,
torn or pulled muscles in the pelvic zone,
    Adhesions(scar tissue)

    Diabeties,

    Insulin resistance,

I went through a year straight of UTI's. It was horrible!!
I went through screening for all of the above.
The only things I didn't have is the diabeties and pelvic inflamitory disease(usually caused by a sexually trans disease that causes cronic damage)

I am currently in hydrotherapy.(water exersizes) She is also doing some other things on me to get my pelvic area back in check. I have so much pain 24/7, it is unreal!

After they Dx me with stress incontanance and was placed on Detrol LA, I have NOT had a UTI. So you may want to check into that. It is a wonderful pill that controls the bladder spasims that cause the pain. I no longer hve to pee every 30-60 mins!!

If you have any questions lt me know.

That's so unfortunate. I was asleep for the procedure. The doctor said it can be done awake but that I would kick him for sure!! I am glad I was asleep!!

As for the yeast problem..I have posted this twice for other people tonight. Here is it for you:

I battled with chronic yeast and bacterial infections for years. I went to a million doctors and they could not explain it either. I saw the head of gynecology of UW as well as the head of GYN at a major hospital in my old city. I tried a billion home cures too with no luck.

Then one day I saw FemGlide in RiteAid. It's safe for diabetics (I'm not though) and is glycerin (I think that is SUGAR) free! It says it won't cause yeast infections on the bottle. It's also pap and sperm compatible. This is the only non-glycerin lube I am aware of being made.

So I switched from Astroglide (and whatever lubes condoms come with) and guess what? I haven't had an infection in a couple years now.

Changing lube was the only thing I did different. I didn't clear up overnight, but it was clear after a few weeks when no infection came, and no infection came...I couldn't believe it!!!

When we used condoms, we bought unlubricated condoms and added this lube to it. It's a nice lube..natural feeling. I highly recommend you give this a try. I hope this may help you as well.

I only start getting a mild infection now after I have gone for a GYN exam, when they touch you with the KY or whatever. When I went to the doctor all the time it obviously made me worse. Now I never have to go for an appt, because I am fine!

I've suffered from chronic UTI's my entire life. My mother got the same answer from my pediatritian when I was little... "some women are just more prone to them". And I just accepted that my whole life. Some tricks I've found.... I only wear cotton underwear and don't drink more than one or two sodas a week.

I've also noticed that they got worse as I gained weight and started having trouble with my insulin resistance. Since I've lost weight and learned to control my blood sugar and insulin levels through low carb, I rarely get them anymore. I get one now maybe once every 6 months where before I was getting them at least once a month! I think the sugar in the urine theory is a good one.

    Angry Just have this, doc!!

Ooo, that burns me up. I got a UTI in college, and knew what it was although I had never had one before (girl talk you know!) The doc did not listen to me and poo-pooed me away with cranberry pills. Well, the infection was there and it spread and buried its little e.coli self into the bladder lining to the point I had an infection constantly. I finally saw a competant UROLOGIST who burned out the bladder lining and all the bacteria died. I haven't had problems since (maybe 3 total in 7 years) but when I know I have a UTI I go in and pitch a hissy fit for antibiotics until I get them. That may be your case--perhaps bacteria are hiding down in the tissue where the antibiotics can't attack them? Also, I know TMI, but I have to pee after sex, or I get the UTI within hours. I don't take baths. And I know for a fact you CAN get a UTI from an unsanitized public pool. I don't swim anywhere now where the chlorine doesn't practically burn me! I also get yeasties often but it's been better since the iR diet. KY gives me yeast overnight.
Whoa! bfp 11/22/08. A YAZ "reset" baby!
