Default bladder problems on met ? with caffiene ?

err this might sound really weird but I keep having this burning sensation when I have to go to the bathroom and it seems to vary in relation to when I remember to take my met. Has anyone else experienced anything like this ?

It seems so weird to me but it goes away as soon as I start missing metformin doses.. and it seems to get worse when I take them all.. A couple years ago also I had an incident with a bladder infection that just would not go away.. and it seemed to get better suddenly stopped taking met. I know back then I searched for bladder side effects and found nothing but I was wondering by chance has anyone else had a similar issue/felt met irritated their bladder..?

I'm actually quite worried.. I'm starting to think that maybe my body isn't metabolising met right or something.. To add to this.. the problem seems to get worse whenever I drink coffee.. weird eh ?

if anyone.. can shed some light on this I would be most grateful.

I haven't experienced any bladder issues (nor have I read of any). Sounds like maybe you need a dose of antibiotics (Cipro). Hope you feel better.

Hi Marisa-I just happened upon this thread, but do you drink lots of water while taking Met? I just started taking it again after being off for almost 2 years and I reread the warning papers and it says to make sure and drink plenty of water while taking it. I wonder if that could be the issue? If it persists, I would definitely call your doctor about it.

Agreed-- I was wondering how much water you were drinking. I have to drink more water than I ever thought was possible for it to not burn. Yuck

Hmmm, I currently have a bladder infection bad enough that I had to take 2 days off of work. I'm 30, and it's the 1st one I've ever had in my life. The only thing I can think of to cause it is I've been on Met ER for a few wks?

Please let me know (PM me) if you find anything out about bladder issues + Met. My regular dr said that it shouldn't be the cause, but she'd not a Met expert, so I'm not dead set on beleiving her.

I started getting them all the time when I started Met. I got one when I first increased to the full dose, and it lasted for an entire week. My doc who prescribes my Met is also my general practitioner, and she never mentioned any relation it might have to the met. But still about 1 day a week I get little bladder symptoms like pain and difficulty holding it, especially after vigorous exercise. If it turned out that it was related to the Metformin, I wouldn't stop it or ask for a lower dose. It seems worth it.

One thing that helped is just going to the bathroom more often. I probably go 1.5 times for other women's 1 time. It keeps the serious problems away.
