bleeding

Hi everyone. I am new at this so please bear with me. I just need some help. I have been diagnosed with pcos for about 2 years. I have been on and off with metformin, lexapro, and synthroid(just diagnosed with hypothyroidism also.) I get so depressed that I go off my meds. well I decided about a month ago to get everything straight with meds and diet. Well started bleeding on 1/21/05, it is now 3/4/05 (42 days). I started passing huge clots on feb28 this lasted for 1 week. well it lasted till i called by gyn. My regular doc is on vacation so one of his partners decided to call in provera for me. well my bleeding has not stopped. This is the 5th day of provera and the clots are much smaller and the bleeding is not quite as bad. I am just tired of this bleeding. The doc did not even want to check my hemoglobin! I am tired and my hands and feet are cold. My reg gyn will not be back until 3/7. I am to the point that i want a hysterectomy because I am tired of not bleeding and then having a flood. I have one precious 9 year old son. (before all this started) I thank god for him every day. I would love to have one more child,but i feel that My body and my mind can't deal with all of this. I am 32 and at my wits end. Please help with any suggestions or where I should go from here. Thanks

Hello and welcome to SC!

I know exactly how you're feeling and I'm sorry you're having to go through it! I do have a question about the mg's you're taking of Provera - I too had long (45+ days), clotty bleeds - I started on 10mg of Provera and when they wouldn't stop my gyn increased it to 20mg - even with the 20mg I still had a little spotting. I think that if you're on a lower dosage that maybe you should call the doc and let them know that you're still bleeding and ask if it is ok to increase your dosage.

I'm also curious to know what was found during your U/S back when you were dx? Have you ever had a D&C? I know you're frusterated but I don't think you should make a decision like a hysterectomy solely based on the long cycles - afterall, your doc has not recommended it, right? Keep your chin up - call the doc, even though your doc is out of town and please let them know what's going on.

**oh and if you're not already - I'd start taking Iron Sups ASAP!**

I've been there. It really sucks! I've heard it explained that bleeds like this happen due to lack of ovulation. Provera never helped me either. It wasn't until I went on Yasmin that the constant bleeding finally stopped. If you are not currently interested in TTC, have you considered going on the pill? I am on it right now for a few months before TTC. It gives the ovaries a rest. I always ovulate right after going off of it.

I thank you for your replies. I am on 10 mg of provera. I forgot to say that my u/s show multiple cysts on both ovaries and my right one is enlarged. It also showed that I have a small fibroid. I was also diagnosed with adenomyosis. My gyn said that I would probably have to have a hysterectomy in 5 to 10 years. I am not ttc at present. I would love another child, but I don't forsee this, unless we adopt. I hate my body most days. thanks

I think we have all had those moments...I have only bled for two weeks at the most, but it was still no fun. I hope that all works out for you {{{HUGS}}}
