I had an HSG about two hours ago and I am bleeding super-super heavy, like heavier than AF has ever been. I soaked through the ultra-thick pad they gave me at the clinic within an hour. As I pulled my pants up, I gushed all over the place, ruining my rug, and filling the new pad, which included a peach-pit sized clot. This is just nuts, and I am so afraid to move off the toilet. How long should I expect this to go on?

Hi there,
Sorry your experiencing so much bleeding. When i had mine two weeks ago all i had was minor spotting and that only lasted a few hours. I dont think bleeding that heavy is normal and maybe u should consider going to the docs if poss or the hospital. Was you due your af any time soon?
Generally speaking bleeding through more than one pad/tampon an hour is enough reason to call your doctor- if it persists and you feel light headed/lethargic/dizzy definitely seek medical attention. I hate to sound like an alarmist but I'd give your doctor a call- don't mind that it's after hours or right before a holiday- that's what doctors get paid to be on call for.

I agree with the previous posts. I only spotted a little. I think you should call the doctor.

I called, and should be getting a call back from my dr. shortly. Thanks, girls. The flow seems to be tapering off finally, after passing a huge a** clot (this one I literally felt coming out... totally gross and weirdly awesome). Off the toilet now, and I have a pad on.

Don't stress too much Meg, I had a very similar experience. I bled a lot and bled for a number of days, I think it was about 4. The only comforting thing about the HSG is knowing you never have to have it again! To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

I had mine yesterday. I had no bleeding or spotting yesterday, but it's picking up now. It's still only as much bleeding as a light AF, so I'm glad you called.
KUP.

It's totally light now. Phew! Doctor said as long as it is tapering off, it's fine. Glad to hear it's normal! It was kind of hard to understand her over the phone because of her accent (bilingual) but I think she said the clots were from my cervix and not from my uterus. I'm not sure how that works. I've always pictured my cervix as a tiny 3 inch long canal... how do clots the size of giant jawbreakers come from that???

(mj) Christine, yup it was Dr. Gondra. I was not happy to find out she was doing the HSG, of all things, after hearing from you Heartland gals that she is a little "rough". UGH. Everything was bearable until she told me to cough. I was like, what?? She said I would feel a pinch. So I coughed, and felt something akin to a knife slicing through my cervix and I yelled out and started wimpering/crying. They brought the monitor around so I could see, but I could care less I just wanted it to be over. I could see the dye fill up my uterus but through the tears, I couldn't really see my fallopian tubes... the pain was pretty consuming at the time. When she told me my tubes were ALL CLEAR I just bawled. I was so happy to hear the news. DH was sitting outside the xray room the whole time, and he said he could hear everything, and he felt so nervous hearing me crying and listening to what they were doing. He LOVES our nurse and our Dr. for comforting me through it. It was great to have a hand to hold. I wished it was my husband, but looking back, it probably was a good idea to have him outside. The pain disappeared in five minutes or so, and now I just have faint AF cramps. To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
