I remember having a heavy period after nursing also. There was a lot of buildup that had to be released.. However, 4 weeks seems excessive. I would go back to the doctor, or a try another doc.. I have never ending periods. The longest I put up with one was 3 months. My doc wasn't very happy that I waited that long to come in. My first doc put me on a short term hormone that caused me to "reset". After that, every doc wanted me to go on the bcp, but like you, it was not something I wanted. I was told repeatedly that the only way I'd have normal cycles was the bcp. I just got a new doctor who seems hopeful that we can get me regular without the pill. We are trying Prometrium now and although I've just started it seems to be doing what it's supposed to.

Also..I've been on met a few times and it's altered my period, so maybe that has something to do with it? I would definitely make another appointment if possible.
