Is bleeding normal after acupuncture? Also, question re: Vitex
Hello Cysters,
Well, I have a couple questions...I had my 2nd acupuncture treatment Monday and I bled when they took the needles out...my dr. said that's "good" and it's "cleansing" BUT, i don't know about that...he's insured/certified/etc but I'm just unsure. Also, it HURTS...worse than the first time. I have my third appt this Friday.
My second question, I've been taking vitex and dong quai for about 20 days (around day 30 of my annovulatory cycle) so now I'm on cd51 and am getting impatient....I am really hoping AF will come, or ovulation...how long do these herbs normally take to work???? How long should I keep taking them? I don't want to go months and months without a period, but I don't want to give up either b/c I've read the success stories. When I started them, I felt like I got worse, I got really zitty which is abnormal for me, but I'm feeling normal now. I feel like I'm doing this all for nothing, PLEASE someone give me hope!

Hi...I also bled during the session and when they took them out. My doctor said it was cause my ears are very tight and he had a hard time putting them in and getting them to stay. I have moved and miss those sessions very much.
I am going to be starting vitex and other herbs very soon so I don't know a lot...I am researching also. The vitex is accumulative and may take awhile to see results..(from everything I have read)...you should not stop taking it cause you will have to start over cause your body'll wipe it out quickly.
I am hoping to have success on herbs but remember they say everyone is different...some see results right away and others like me just have to wait...I wish you well.
I have been going to acupuncture since January and I still bleed every time. Just a few drops where the needles were and then she wipes it away with alcohol (I assume).
Is that what you mean?
I have been to about 15 acupuncture sessions and I bleed a little occasionally from a few of the pins, usually the ones on my ears and feet. The one pin on my right foot has hurt a few times and she says it's b/c I am stressed--it is a liver point. Also, the one on my thigh hurt the first time I went and that was linked to my spleen apparently. When I am more relaxed and when I breathe deeply, the pins don't hurt. After getting my first natural period in years, the pins did not hurt at all.
I suggest continuing the herbs. The time it takes for people varies.
Hi guys...
Thanks for the replies! I am soooo releaved to hear that it is normal to bleed where the pins were. It's weird, it's usually only on one side or the other. Erin, the acupuncture is going well, but the ones in the bottom of my feet KILL! I get chills in my cheeks, wierd...I also feel tired afterwards, but nothing too major. anyways, the one's that are hard to go in are my stomach and spleen points, I guess that relates to hormones and jaw pain, both of which are messed up in me, so that makes sense. Fifa...how long did it take to get a period, and have you been "regular" since???? I am so hopeful still that my body will try to regulate itself, but I get impatient sometimes...I have been having werid pains in my lower stomach, kind of like cramps, but kind of like, God, I don't know how to expain it, like air in my uterus?! That sounds ridiculous, but that's what it feels like...I hope something is going on in there! Llet's keep each other posted! Take care!

It is normal to bleed. And if you feal tired, it is a good sign! It shows that your body work hard, really hard to make it work the way it should.
About the herbs: hang on there!

I got my period after about 11 weeks of acupuncture, but I don't really attribute AF to the pins, more to the herbs. It was only after vitex and dong quai did my temps change and AF came. I'm going to see my acupuncturist through this cycle, but am going to discontinue after that. I don't think it was a waste of time or money--it was very relaxing, but I think the herbs were what really did it for me.
