OK... situation (this is for a close friend who is over and has PCOS).
She had a large cyst.
She had it removed (was advised).
They not only removed the cyst but they did a D&C.
That was in February.
Here it is..... almost June.
She has bled EVERYDAY since this procedure.
Not a little but like a superplus tampon every 2 hours and with clots.
Her doctor insists nothing is wrong.
They told her to take prometrium for 10 days.
That made her SO sick and didn't work.
SHe shakes b/c she loses so much blood she is anemic.
Her doctor told her that the cysts that was removed looked fine so they didnt' send it off for further testing.
Being that she is still bleeeding, they want to see her June 15th to do another D&C.
She is scared to go back to them.
So.... what could this be? Any thoughts? Only thing that they say is off is her T3.
HELP!!!!!!

She should see a doctor. And perhaps get a 2nd opinion?
I really don't know what you should do, but you must do something!
I hope it turns out okay in the end. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I would definately seek a second opinion. It sounds like her doctor doesn't have a clue! I would go see someone else ASAP incase there is something serious going on.

I used to have really long periods that I never found out the cause of. I began having problems with that within months of beginning my period. Perhaps it is just a coincidence, but I do think it merrits a second opinion. I had some that lasted as long as 6 months straight (which I was hospitalized for) and my doctors wanted me to have a hysterectomy at age 17. Thank goodness I refused.
Second opinion is what she needs. Also, if her iron, which I am sure it is, is that low........why isn't she taing a suppliment to help? Even taking a multivitamin once a day will help with that.
It is very important that she gets that second opinion. If nothing else, get her to take some iron, it iwll make her feel better. Just make sure she understands that she can take too much iron and really get sick. Just wondering, has she had tests to see what her iron level is at? And if so, why hasn't the doctor told her she needed extra? Anyway, just taking a multivitamin will help some. Most women don't get enough through everyday food.

she is a nurse and what her doctor refused to run, she ran... her iron was mildly low.. not too bad. Sad thing is, this is supposd to be a GREAT doctor (a head of infertility at a MAJOR) hospital.
SO no thoughts on what it could be?

Well, it could be just fibroids. Has she been checked for that? I have those yucky long bleeds and there was sometimes clots involved. My longest bleed session was 3 months, I think. Provera was my jumpstart for a real AF. My doctor gave me a running (years worth) prescription for provera if Met didn't help. So far, being on Met has made me regular. Not sure whatelse it could be.
Sometimes taking a progesterone supplement takes longer than 10 days for the bleeding to stop. Sometimes you have to do another round or a different kind and dose. My provera was 2 on first day and 1 for 3 days there after. I would then start real AF within a week. I did that with my first doc in Oregon, but when we moved up to Alaska, I just used progesterone cream and vitex until I found a new doc here.

I would say go to the ER and have the doctors check you out. You really need to get a second opinion cause bleeding for that long doesn't seem right. Pls keep us posted.

I asked a friend of mine from these boards who is a LIer too (and lives close enough to Cathy) if she liked her doctor and who they were. She (Bbabsy31) said she loved her doctor and gave me his practice. I handed this info along to Cathy.
Tuesday morning she called and explained the WHOLE situation and they got her in that day. Here's what happenned.
She had 2 cysts on her ovary (small at sizes 3 & 4). OK... fine. He told her she had severe hyperplasia and he could not believe the treatment she was getting (and this doctor is supposed to be incredible). He said they should have done a D&C when she was here last (another D&C i should say). This new doctor gave her an Emergency D&C right then & there! He is sending it all out to the lab but is sure its going to come back normal. He told her to start BCPs for 4 months while her body gets back to normal. They will then worry abotu TTC b/c her body couldnt' support anything.
She is elated. She knows she isn't dying! She knows she has hope of having another child. She now has a great doctor that she is comfortable with and who listens to her. Her pain is gone!!! She is minimally spotting now (ON MORE BLEEDING!).
I along with Cathy, Thank you for all your helpa nd support.
She would post more but her computer keeps lockign her out of posting and I live 80 miles away (so i can't run over and fix it).
